ema27 wrote:hi jovi fan -i got braced 2 days ago and all is well.i have metal uppers none on the bottom yet.I Started my salt water rinses 2 days before-no pain getting the braceson and so far no pain afterwards.I Find it easy to chew-just annoying having to pick your food out of the brace! im 27 and at first i thought i would be really withdrawn but thats not the case at all. my reckoning is theres no point hiding or getting all sad about it the braces are on their for a reason-we chose to do this for ourselves. It is exciting once there on because you know your journey has started and you one day less to go!

Good luck with getting braced-dont worry!
CONGRATS!!! I'm sooo glad to hear, yet again, no pain!!!! and I got the 'reminder' call today about my appt Monday .....4 days left :)

Just have painkillers in hand!
You may need them. I did not have too much pain with spacers, but it has been different story with braces. But you may be lucky not to have any pain. Who knows...

Molare bands were easy put in. The whole bracing procedure was painfree :)

Good luck for tomorrow!!!!

LOL --- I just feel like I have a million questions about what's gonna happen, what's normal and not normal, what to expect, how to keep them clean, what products to use, etc. etc.....I'm sure I'll be fine and will be very happy once I've started, I've been putting it of for many, many years....it's prob like my kitchen renovation, I'll say I wish I had done it 10+ years ago!!!!

Well, that part wasn't bad !!!!!! Here's hour 3.5! LOL They did xray, and photos today and put the ceramics on top. They don't feel bad yet, just a little funny... Question-that I didn't get chance to ask there......is it typical that they don't bracket to last molar on each side?.....the next molar in is a metal bracket.....and my 2 canine tooth brackets have 'wings' -- is that for the elastics down the road? That's what I think is gonna bother my lips.

btw - how do you guys get the upclose pics of your mouth??? This angle is awful! ROFL

Thanks Karen for answering my questions! So far, so good...my 2 front teeth starting to feel a little 'funny' --

I think I need to call them tomorrow - not an emergency, but there's one tooth I CANNOT get the floss up to the gumline....I'm thinking there is glue/cement in the way....wonder what they do in that case???

I'm still a little 'nervous' about things to come - but excited becuz I finally started the journey --- estimating 18 months, but I figure 24....lol
I was able to eat some chicken and rice and a choc chip muffin and some orange slices tonight :) not bad really, just a little wierd feeling.

I had the same with my molar band tooth. I could not floss at all for couple of days. In my case it was a tight contact. Now I can floss happily :).

My lower incissors started to hurt after about three hours.... and it has there since then (three days). Ugh. Painkillers help to reduce the pain.
I was told that I will see lot's of movement just there. well no movement yet, but the pain is probably sign that something is happening.

Hopefully you have a happy journey!!!!

Jovi fan -so pleased for you -glad the braces are not causingtoo much trouble! The feeling of something in your mouth is strange but you do get use to it.The little hooks are annoying at times especially when i yawn or laugh!-they do catch on my cheeks sometimes.do you find you are constantly looking in the mirror?i dont even know why i do but at least 10 times a day!
Still painless and not that bothered about them being in my mouth any more!Congrats on getting started and look forward to hearing your progress!

A little discomfort today, but no 'real pain' (well, except the gumline where I keep trying to poke the floss thru on 1 tooth, cannot get the floss to go up to the gumline...so I'm almost done trying - got an appt for this Thurs for them to check and see if it's the bracket in the way or the cement/glue! Figures---makes me a little upset that I can't get the floss to go, didn't wanna have to go back sooooo soon! LOL
Head up tho....could be worse things!

I guess it's either the bracket in the way, or there's cement between the 2 teeth - guess that has to be fixed or those 2 teeth will be 'stuck together'! LOL
will find out Thurs am :)
Thanks for all the kinds words!!!! they are really needed and appreciated! Just has some mushy cereal with fresh blueberries....cereal a little tough chewing....so, I'm figuring yogurt and soup the rest of today!

Hey - we have the same b-day

I got my braces on - 1-29-2007 as well (11:00am EST)- how long is your treatment?

Mine is 18 months -

My teeth are a bit 'tender', but nothing like I remembered when I was 14 or so (this is my second time in braces) - I neglected to wear my retainer the first time - won't do that again.

Good luck with your treatment!
