I was wondering if the Invisalign people on the board use "Aligner chewies" on a regular basis?
If so, do you feel that you get enough of them from your orthodontist? Would you buy them separately so that you had more?

I tried them for a short period of time when my top aligners were slightly off (things some how corrected themselves and they fit fine now) and I didn't really like them. I like the IDEA of them but I kept feeling like I was going to swallow them if I just chewed and chewed without thinking about it. I don't think I used them long enough to notice a diffrence but other people seem like them.

From the manufacturer's website:

Aligner Chewie
Moving teeth with clear plastic aligners has become popular recently. Unfortunately, some common problems occur in many cases treated with these devices. Sometimes, the aligner is not completed seated along the maxillary teeth, leading to additional time consuming treatment of the effected teeth, including bonding attachments and elastics.
One way to prevent this from occurring is based on the concept of the tooth positioner. The incompletely seated aligner can be forced down repeatedly with biting forces over a period of days, until the space between the effected tooth and aligner is gone.
The Aligner Chewie provides a soft chewing device the size of a cotton roll that can be dispensed to patients being treated with plastic aligners. The chewie provides a cleaner, more professional alternative to standard cotton rolls, while provide uniform force to seat the aligner properly.

aligner chewies
Yes, my ortho recommends I use them 1 hr a day. But she only gives me about 4-5 at a time. So I have to stop back by the office and ask for more. I feel they help settle the aligners well on my teeth. I also feel they help get out my frustration at wearing these stupid aligners!
But the way she doles them out, you'd think they were really expensive! They can't be - it's just rubber bits. Ridiculous. Yes, I would buy a big bag of them (assuming they could be bought inexpensively) just to have plenty around.

chewies are a bit addictive ...
Nanny,
Even though you are in Germany, your ortho should be able to get these chewies for you! I like to use them just for a few minutes after meals - I mean, after cleaning my teeth after a meal, then putting the aligners back in. Chewing on the chewie for a few minutes makes the aligners feel less tight, which happens if they are out for an hour or more.
I also bite down on the aligners all the time. At certain times of day (late afternoon) I just find them very irritating. If my teeth didn't look so darn good with the treatment, I would never have made it through the program!
Good luck, everybody in their quest for a beautiful smile,
Tracy

I bought 33 (I think) from another website (they were in packs of 3) in the plain white variety. I just want to make sure that I get off to a good start even if I do not get any from my ortho when I get my aligners this Friday. I want to give myself every possible advantage of making this work the first time around!
The aligner chewies that I got reminded me of PVC piping on the outside with a softer gooey-looking plastic material on the inside.
