I am going to panic a little bit

â€¦â€¦ this Saturday evening I found a little tear on the upper aligner. The tear is in the middle of the aligner between my two front teeth where I have a gap (pics of my teeth on the www button, 1st page). It is about 1 millimetre and it is not on the border.

When I am trying to remove my aligners I am doing that from the back (left/right) and to the end I am removing it on the front teeth. I think that is why I have now a tear in the middle of the aligner, but my ortho told me to do it this way, because especially on my uppers I have on every molar an attachment and the aligner could therefore easily break on the border and I have to be careful.

I am frightened if the aligner will break the next few times I am removing it. I have not the courage to remove them often for eating now..... I will call the ortho if that will be a problem because I am on the first aligner now and I should change it on the next Friday (Friday morning the 48hours are exactly over).

The ortho told me that it will be no problem if there is a little tear on the border, we didnâ€™t talk about the middle of the aligner/material. I suppose this will be no problem, tooâ€¦

Please give me a short feedback what your thinking about that. Till Monday morning there will pass many loooong hoursâ€¦

damn...i feel for ya, nancy. if i were you, i'd be panicing too. i mean, a hump in the road already.

its interesting that some people are experiencing tears in the aligners. my ortho, who is a premier provider, advised me that he has never seen anyone do any damage to their aligners yet. i wonder if this could be due to manufacturing defects? or, perhaps from drinking things that are acidic with the aligners in results in weakening the material?

if i were you, i'd just keep on wearing it and be very cautious when removing it. call your ortho asap for advice. it sounds like you are too far from your 2nd aligner to pop that one in. however, if it does break, i would think about popping in the 2nd. you never know, it may fit fine.

Hi there, I've gotten a tear in my aligner, but not right in the middle like that - does the aligner still give the same pressure to your teeth as before it tore? Hope everything is ok till tomorrow. I'm in DE also, by the way, with 42upper, 57 lower trays! *waves*

Yesterday I was thinking about my first appointment and I remembered that they told me to leave the aligners in if they have only a little tear. I looked on the orthos website and found out, that a tear of 2-3 millimetres should be OK. Because of mine is somewhere in the middle and the pressure is like before it should be OKâ€¦.. I realized thet there is a tear only because I looked on it into the light. My husband had to look on it a few minutes until he saw the little tear.

But I donÂ´t like moving the aligners at this moment, I am doing that now 2-3x a day. Twice a day is not enough I think because of cleaning the teeth should be 3x a day?

Since Friday (before that tear) the aligners fit so well, I have had no more pain on the teeth and they seem to be straightened like they should be on this aligner.
