Hi everyone!

Hello everyone!

I finally decided to come out of lurking and post. I am a 28 year old female, married with 3 hairy kids (our dogs) from Texas. I just got my upper braces 2/5/07 and my first adjustment 3/5/07.

I actually stumbled across this website during my 1st week of braces. That was a horrible week... it's still fresh on my mind. I got my braces on a Monday and then caught a severe upper respiratory infection Tuesday, which caused me to miss a whole week of work. By Thursday of that week, I was crying "Why did I do this to myself" (referring to the braces) and I immediately went on the internet in search of anything about braces. Low and behold, I came upon this website. This message board was a life saver! I read through countless posts and felt so much better knowing that I wasn't the only one going through this, nor would I be the last, lol.

My decision to finally get braces came after many years of wanting them. When I was about 10 years old, I fell on a cooler and pushed one of my front teeth back, which caused my front 2 teeth to overlap some. My bottom teeth have some crowding in the front which has caused them to be crooked. Actually, my bottom teeth haven't bothered me as much as the top, I suppose because of my overbite. As a kid, I didn't go to the dentist regularly and only didn't start until 2 years ago until after I had to have a root canal. All I can say is that regular dental check-ups will be apart of my childern's lives... when that time comes, of course.

So, here I am. My ortho says that my expected treatment will last about 30 months... I guess because of my overbite. The plan is for me to have the upper braces on for about 3 months and then she will put the bottom on.

I'm excited about this lonngg journey and am happy to have found this website!

Hello and welcome, Red.
Too bad you had the misery of being sick to your first braces week. I would assume you must have had some minor changes already-- that will help to keep your spirits up. Take good care of yourself-- this is an added stress, even though it has a positive outcome. I look forward to following your journey-- write often. We all learn from each other.
It's all in how you see yourself!
