Sorry if this link violates forum rules, no harm intended, just trying to be informative. Sorta gruesome, so beware.

OMG! That was gruesome! but totally awesome too! OK...so for those of you that had upper Leforts, they don't cut underneath like in this video do they? That totally freaked me out now!

YIKES!

OMG,

this is not what I want to see. Only watched the first minute, and that was even
too much. I love to visit this site and forum. It is awesome to find here loads
of information. But there are limits. There are just things I do not want to know.
I think about all the courage one tries to grasp to face a jaw surgery melts like
snow under the sun when watching this. Great invention, this stop button. I used it
here eagerly. And now I will watch spring in my garden, see the flowers and birds
making their nest, to compensate this "ugliness" ...

Crikey.....not for the faint hearted.

Actually, I couldn't go past the tooth pulling bit!

Wow, I think that was pretty interesting...It's not too gruesome though.

I think it was pretty darn graphic myself, I stared just stared at the screen in utter horror! but just couldn't bring myself to hit the stop button!

Meryten, yes I think you are right, from everything I have read the incisions are no longer made under the palate like that. When I had my SARPE done I thought they were going to cut my palate and the doctor told me they don't do that anymore, that that is where your blood supply is and that healing is much faster and less painful by going in above the teeth. So.....I feel better now knowing at least that palate slicing part is not going to happen.

I do have to say that after watching the full video I felt sorta naseuous....and I have a pretty strong stomach....so be forwarned! I really was amazed at the lack of blood. The doctor did a lot of cutting and bleeding seemed to be very minimal!

OMG - that was absolutely horrid, it looked like something they'd do to you in a SPAM shooting gallery after they drugged you if your kidneys were in your mouth. But it was Guadalajara actually, and wow, wasn't that amazing though to see the finished results?? But I can only imagine the crazy swelling that poor person had after that. But thanks for posting, it's good to know how much more techniques have advanced. Right now I'm going to go offer thanks to the gods of large things that I am not required SARPE as well as my lower jaw advancement.

Im not at all squemish but literally couldnt watch that, i watched for a couple of minutes then was actually telling my computer to stop!!

This isnt even the type of surgery im having so id warn anyone having this surgery to be very sure before watching this.

That said some people love having all the information even if it is grusome (i actually thought i was one of these) so well done for finding it.

Oh my goodness.. I almost dropped the laptop on the floor cause I was pushing the computer away from myself! That was actually worse to me than the videos I've seen of BRAIN SURGERY! But it's like a train wreck, and I REALLY couldn't look away.

I don't expect to need surgery on my jaw, but I haven't talked to my orthodontist to completely rule it out as a possibility, I would think he'd have mentioned it before we get started... but I wandered over here too to browse the info and hear everyone's experiences.

Thanks for sharing, I definitely have a morbid curiosity, but its great if it's not necessary to do it that way anymore.

Holy gosh....as someone who had double jaw surgery I could not watch that. When they started to cut the palate underneath I quit watching. I had the LeForte done and my palate widened at the same time and all my incisions (as others suggest) were beneath the upper lip. I personally think not knowing what this surgery looks like is a good thing! If you ae on schedule for surgery just go with it, don't watch the video. The surgery process isn't horrible. The less you know the better in my opinion (-:

Wow, I almost made it all the way through. I had that surgery done to me last year. I am SOOOOO glad I didn't watch that before the surgery. I just cried watching it and it's already been done to me. I had stitches under my lip but nothing below my teeth.
