I'm 26 and on Tuesday I say my new ortho and signed to get braces next month. I had braces when I was 13 but was never really pleased with the result and kinda had an epiphany last month after seeing a picy of myself - my teeth are not too bad (bit crowded and wonky in places) they’re just very very narrow so I kinda look like a gerbil when I smile!
So I decided 2005 was the year that I’m going to be happy with myself - starting with my teeth - I'm opting for ceramic top and bottom and not only wanted to say hi but also wondering if it is true that ceramic take longer and if so if anyone knows why?
I’ll be around so please say hi.

p.s. I found this website totally by accident and am so pleased - it's answered so many questions and made me feel so much less worried about getting braces
Hello there! im from england too! Welcome to the site.
Im kind of a new bee on here too. Iv had braces for just under a month, and so far so good. i initially opted for ceramics, but on the day i was going to have them put on, my ortho convinced me to try the damon 3 system which is known to be more efficient.
I have also read on this site that ceramics do take longer, but not that much longer.
Hi Bethan, welcome to the forum. I live just west of the pennines to you, and I had ceramic on top, and they were just as productive in my teeth movement than my lower metals. Although I did have a lot of movement to go through. I've heard they can be a little more difficult to remove than metals, but not to the point where it would convince me to have metal uppers too. Good luck with your treatment in 2005.
Thanks for your messages – am relieved to hear that ceramics are just as effective as metals - I’ve just got a new job where I meet lots of clients so am going to opt for ceramic top and bottom.
Bit of a wait as my ortho is a very busy man so it's Feb 28th until I join the gang
Great to have you here. I am a relative newbie here but like you have found this site so informative, friendly, caring, and also blunt at times when people need it.
I am joining the brace crowd earlier in the month of February 2005. We will have close dates of entering the "family".
England is a great place. I have spent some time in Aylesbury for wheelchair games at Stoke-Mandeville Rehab center. One year we took off after the games and headed Southwest towards Stonehenge and then Torkey and out that way. Beautiful!
Well, take care and keep in touch!!

I am so happy I got these braces!
Hang in there!
Hi there,
I'm 24 from Southampton, England and I just had my braces fitted a week and 4 days ago. My ortho suggested the Damon 3 system which I am pleased with. The first 4 days or so my teeth were real sore. But now I have got quite used to them.
My ortho reckons I will have to hve treatment for 2 years, and my first adjustment is not until 7th March.
Thanks for this website as it has helped my with some queries I had before and after having braces fitted.
Good luck to all people who have not had their braces fitted yet, just think of the final result, it's worth it!!
Hi Scarlett and welcome. Glad you like you Damon 3's. I too have Damon 3's and find them very easy to clean around, as well as, being somewhat comfortable - if you can say that about a mouth full of metal!
Good luck to you.
Just to let you know that I'm getting braced on the 28th Feb. I stuck with the ceramics but I'm not sure if it'll be both top and bottom to begin with as I have a deep bite (and am in danger of crunching what will become my very expensive teeth!) so I'll let you know.
