surgical hooks

#1 Post by victoriaaa18 »

I just got mine put on & they aren't as bad as I thought they were going to be, the pictures that I have seen have hooks in between every bracket but I only have 6, 3 on top & 3 on the bottom..& they aren't that noticable

I also got my last impression today, & thankgod, he got it stuck & it was soo uncomfortable when he was trying to get the bottom one out..it literally wouldn't budge  I wonder what would happen if it did actually get stuck, imagine walking about with one of those in your mouth

as far as orthodontics are concerened I've finished until after my surgery :D

surgery isn't till june though because of my exams

& I was also supposed to see my surgeon today but he didn't show up :? apparently he does that alot...I don't know what to think of that, there were a few questions I wanted to ask him too so I guess I'll have to wait till the 30th of may for that

Hi Victoria

Snap! I had my hooks put on last Tuesday, the bottom ones rubbed for a few days but its ok know. I have 7 on top and 7 on the bottom, looks like small nails that need banging in! :gavel:
I thought mines were early, I'm having my op. on May 16th but yours isn't 'til June!!!
I sympathise with you about the moulds, it's not fun having someone trying to yank all your teeth out at once  I've got that to look forwards to this Monday coming.
Is it Glasgow Southern General your attending, if so who is your surgeon? Mine is Mr Koppel, sometimes I see him sometimes I don't :Questions:

Well, good luck with the hooks and remember wax is GOOD!!!

hooks

#3 Post by kate0310 »

good luck both of you with your upcoming appointments and surgeries!

Just a tad of advice: save some wax for after your surgery. My hooks didnt bother me at all before hand, but now 2 weeks post-op my mouth has become torn apart (im sure the skin is just more sensitive) and I could reallllly use some wax now. So just ask your ortho for a bit extra for after.

:D

Thanks for the advise kate0310.

You have actually just confirmed one of my post surgery fears. The hooks on the brackets attached to my lower wisdom teeth are already fairly well imbedded in my cheeks and tend to flare-up quite regularly. I'm dreading the shredding I'll get when I'm swollen
I like to be prepared and bought a bulk box of wax just after I got braced, so hopefully I should have enough to see me through. The ortho only gave me two packs when she put the hooks on, I don't go back now 'til 2 weeks after my op. Seems a bit mean considering what your going through!
Good luck with your recovery, happy healing and hope you get your wax soon! :D

Hi everyone,

I thought I'd mention that I had braces for a year before I found Ortho-Sil silicone wax on the DentaKit.com WebSite (they advertise on ArchWired). That stuff is great! It is very smooth and silky and doesn't fall apart like wax. It stays on better for me and is clear, not white like the wax I had. It is supposedly reusable too, though I don't really do that. I buy it 10 at a time now for $1 each plus shipping!

Good luck with getting ready for your surgeries. I am still waiting for my surgery date!

Hi HighandLo

That's the same stuff I bought, it's what my ortho gave me. Here in the UK the only place I could find it was at an orthodontics supply company online, minimum purchase was a box of 50! I'm really glad I bought it, it's come in pretty handy and should hopefully do me 'till I get brace-free :-*

Hope you get you date soon!

Hooks

#10 Post by Nicki003 »

I have just recently joined this group. I got my hooks put on yesterday (3 on top and 3 on bottom) in preperation for the surgery on Weds coming up. I thought this was too few hooks... but I feel better by finding out you all had the same number!

Thanks all for the well wishes. Just 2 more days until the big surgery... I am getting more anxious & nervous. I hope all goes well cuz I know they have to move my bottom jaw forward quite a bit...
