I just got braced on Friday morning and to my surprise, as I was brushing my teeth Sunday night I noticed that one of the brackets was totally unglued. I went to the ortho this morning to have it put back on only to learn that TWO OTHER brackets had came undone as well. I am 34 yo and had braces as a teenager and never had this problem, despite eating every forbidden food in the book (taffy, gum, snickers, etc). I am doubly surprised since I ate all soft foods with the exception of one hard cookie on Sunday. Is this a reflection of poor workmanship? I am concerned because I am going away for 3 weeks and dont' want this to happen again, and I'm slated to have orthognathic surgery in a year or so and don't want the brackets coming off due to the pressure of the wires or elastics...
Has this happened to anyone else?
Is it normal for brackets to come off?

I had one break off after a week and that was it. I think sometimes, it just comes off, not because you abused them or they did not adhere them correctly. It's just what they do, they're tiny little pieces that have to withstand the brutal environment of our mouths. My ortho said if they didn't fall off after a week, I was in the clear. After that one bracket that came off in one week, I have been fine and eating potato chips and hard shelled tacos. *knock on wood*
My first two months I think I was at the ortho four times for loose brackets. One I did. The other bracket was finally replaced with metal and it has stayed in place. The only other loose bracket I've had was a result of getting a mold for a bite plate. A bit too much mold compound got to it and the next day it popped off while eating.
There seems to be a fine line between a perfect glue job for brackets and one that will fail.

I wore braces (this time) for 1294 days or 3 years, 6 months and 17 days.

A bracket actually came off a few days after I got braces on.
I was able get it fixed I think the following day. Well, guess what, another one came off this weekend and I will be going in on Wed to get it glued back on, as well as getting the wire clipped in the back because it's murdering my cheek!!
So, don't worry, these things happen all the time according to the stories of the members here!
