I'm FINALLY Brace Free!!! (with pics)
On May 23rd, 2007 and after 15 months, I FINALLY got my braces removed. I had a choice in which retainers to get and I chose the Hawley upper and lower. Right know I dont know if it was a wise decision, because I work in a hospital and my speech is slurred. I think I sound like Bugs Bunny. I do hope that my speech will get back to normal soon. Is there any hope?!?!?! Also, My the front wire of my retainers are embedded in a clear piece of acrylic. Anyone else have this with their Hawley's and/or know why?
Below I have included pics of my Ortho progress. Let me know what you think.

It's been two days of hawley wear for me and I'm already seeing marked improvement.
I think the secret, like most things orthodontic is to keep them in.
Your tongue, mouth, and teeth need to adjust, and will only do so if you keep things consistant.
I still whistle and slur a bit still, but I was so happy to go to bed last night and be almost intelligible.
It will get better.

My hawley retainers are also made this way. Quite truthfully, I hate the design because I feel the extra acrylic serves no purpose except to add more bulk and collect plaque and stains. I have been wearing my retainers for two months now and my speech has improved a great deal.KDangel18 wrote:
