pinkpatrol: Destination-Pretty teeth!
I was braced on Friday June 22nd for the first time. I am 36. I knew this was not going to be all roses in the process, but I am glad that I finally made the decision to start the journey.
I had a bracket pop off that evening. I am having it replaced today(tuesday 26th). I am sure I will get to go through the discomfort for the next few days again. Progress, progress.......

welcome
Welcome.
I think you have cleared the toughest hurdle, making the decision and leaving the ortho's office with the tin grin.
Did you contemplate ceramic or were metal brackets your choice? I'm am a metal bracket femme and hopefully they will shorten my ortho journey.
I think you will be surprised on how fast you will see progress.
Wear your jewelry proudly and keep us posted.

Thanks everybody for the responses and encouragement! I was on vacation so I was long on responding. I am happy to hear of the salt rinse and chewing through the pain. My front teeth are so sore!! The tops being turned in and the bottom being shifted so far to the right.....I hope I am posting this right! I feel like such a computer idiot!!! I want pink lettering...
The bracket went back on just fine on the tuesday after it fell off--26th. I am using ridiculous amounts of wax. I will remember to make sure I am hydrated!!!!

I forgot to respond on the ceramic issue........I was originally quoted for clear/ceramic. It was only going to be $300 more. After much contemplation and research and current wearer opinions, I just opted to go for the metal. The Aesthetic does not bother me, because the end result is what I am after!!
I have needed braces for 25 years or more and I am paying for them completely out of pocket. My husband works 2 jobs cuz we have 3 kids and we both want me to be at home when they are young. He was going to pay for my braces in full but we had to pay a "little" more to the hospital to own our youngest son!! So he was able to pay half of my $3750 and I am paying for the other half with everything I make for the next year and a half-he will probably be able to pay some more after we pay off the van in December-we shall see.... It is a bummer, but I am so glad to be started. My teeth were starting to get painful with the pressure and shifting and I had had enough!! I was determined to get braces!!!!

welcome, pinkpatrol!!!
hello and welcome, pinkpatrol and congratulations on deciding to get braces!!!! Fellow 36-year-old here who waited WAY too long to get this done, but i have no regrets... and I know you won't either... anyways what gets me through the soreness is Advil, warm salt water rinses (thanks KK for that one) and chewing on a Bite Wafer... if you don't have one... ask your Ortho for one...

p.s. here on ArchWired the day that the braces are installed/applied/bonded/glued-on is called your "B-day" (a combination of your birthday/braces day) so as to avoid scrambling for the right terminology. hope this helps

Thanks Victor, Milk and KK
I am not regretting my decision. Again, I knew it would not always be a picnic. My husband hears me say a lot, "I really don't like these things, but they sure are doing the job!" My teeth are going to look great when I am done.
OOO..this is how I was feeling the other day
I just have to remember the salt water rinses. I forget to do them.
KK I like the display you talked about. I like challenges like that. I would like to try that if I ever have the opportunity!!

No regrets, that's the way to go! I hope everything is going well for you so far. I'm the same with the salt water rinses.. I keep forgetting to bring some salt up from the kitchen to keep next to my brush and such! I'm sure I won't forget tomorrow when the braces come on and things start to hurt.
As for the display, I'm rather good at those! Of course I kind of cheat.. I blur my vision a bit so the words are no longer visible and all I can see are the colors!
It works. Try it! Say the color of the letters, not the word you see.
Purple Yellow Brown Red
Green Black Violet Grey
Orange Pink Cyan Maroon

OK. My first adjustment went well. I was hoping for new wires all around. I got a heavier wire on the top but still have the first wire on the bottom. I thought he was going to have to replace the bottom thinking I may have damaged it or something when I had to put them back into the buccal tubes on the bottom. I popped them out when eating. It is the kind of wire that gets flexible when it is cold. I swished some REALLY cold water, and it was flexible enough to take a tweezers and pop it right back into the tubes. My ortho gave me Kudos on my resourcefulness
The top wire was noticeably tighter but in a comfortable way. I like it better. I may feel differently tomorrow........I have my next appointment in 5 weeks

Pink, haven't had a chance to welcome you yet! I'll be very interested in following your story since we're braced at just about the same time (my b-day was July 12). Mine are feeling pretty good, although like you some days are a little more bothersome than others. But hey, think what we're going to have when we're done! Beautiful, healthier teeth, better smiles, better health!
Hey you guys, give my 56-year old eyes a break! You're giving me a headache with all those colors (HA HA)
. (I'm just kidding, of course.)
By the way, how many abbreviations are there for b-day? Let's see -- bonding, banding, branding, bracing... any others??

Hurrah for a successful first adjustment! Not to mention your resourcefulness.
Let's hope that that new wire stays comfortable.
And Karen, I actually find it noticeably harder to identify the colors than read the words. Is it really the other way around for you?
cwatt1, just be glad that they're not flashing at you and our epileptic readers! Oh and, what about "bracketing"? It's a stretch.
