I feel like I have a tooth coming in ----- weird

#1 Post by metalchic »

I have what feels like a tooth coming in directly above the bone (in the gum area). Now I know you are reading this and thinking I'm crazy but I am one of those lucky people who have a few permanent teeth that decided they didn't want to come and play with the others. I wonder if after all these years, one decided to show up. This feels weird. Do I call my dentist of my ortho? It is freaking me out because it looks just like when a tooth would come in, thankfully, you cannot see it unless I pull my lip up. Anyone ever heard of such a thing or have anything like this with braces and it be something other than a tooth? NO, it is not a place where my braces would rub or anything else would rub, just feels like a tooth (or bone). UGH.

If you are in braces now, you should probably see your orthodontist. If you aren't seen regularly by your orthodontist you may want to go in and see your dentist. Sometimes permanent teeth that have not erupted normally will erupt later for no apparent reason, but you should see either your dentist or orthodontist, they can tell you for sure.

Remember: your orthodontist knows your dental history and orthodontic condition best. I can guide you toward better orthodontic information than if you were left on your own and hopefully in doing so play a small part in your quest to achieve a beautiful, fully functional smile, but you should consider your orthodontist the best source of information.

Thank you so much Dr. Mullen. I did call my regular dentist just to ask about my prior x-rays from March. He said there was nothing showing on that side but he'd be happy to take another film. I have another appointment w/my ortho on 8/23 so I'm hoping I can wait until then to ask about it. We'll see how it holds on until then. Very interesting. I'm SOO hoping it is a tooth and one we can use because that will be one implant I won't have to get.

Thank you again for your response. I don't feel like such an idiot after all for thinking it's a tooth.
