Kerft's Tingrin Journey
Moderator: bbsadmin
My One Week Anniversary!
Today, I'm wax and painkiller-free, any soreness I have is bearable and no teeth are hurting, not yet anyway. It's been interesting week, I am a plus-size girl and these days eating is more of a chore than pleasure. I wonder if I am going to lose some weight during this journey, that would be a plus.
Amy, Thanks for the encouragement.
Karen, I didn't bite my cheek today so I am thinking that I just had an off day yesterday or maybe I just ate too fast....

It's great that you're feeling better, Kerft! You may still experience some periodic soreness, especially the first month or so (at least that's been the case for me), but most of that is related to your teeth loosening up and beginning to move. So that's a good thing
I've actually lost about 8 pounds since I was braced -- I told myself that in connection with getting my braces I was absolutely going to quit snacking, and I've kept that promise to myself! I plan to make this a permanent lifestyle change -- or at least to make sure I snack infrequently and on healthy foods

Thanks cwatt1!
So far so good no pain, no wax and no advil!!! I do have a little piece of wire in the back of my upper jaw on the right side that hitches periodically in my cheek. I should put some wax on it but I can't remember.
Rice is my enemy!
it is really hard to chew and it keeps getting stuck in my braces - especially par-boiled rice. I wanted some variety (tired of mashed potatoes). I am never ever eating rice again at least until these 18 months are done....

Thanks for the encouragement and advice jt2 & Karen
It's been a couple of days since my last post. I am now back at work after one glorious month's vacation. It was great being away and now that I am back, I realise why I needed the vacation in the first place.
This morning my first big challenge - my mouth became really dry and even though I applied lip gloss and was drinking water the inside of my lips where my braces touch was sore, what was worse was that I was on my way to a meeting (lots of talking). Now my lips are completely bruised!
I don't know what happened. I do a lot of talking for my job and I am concerned, it's just my second day back at work!
Anyway on to more fun things - Today I had curry for lunch and my aqua ligs are now, a bright greenish colour! So essentially, I got new ligs and didn't have to go in to my ortho to change them!

Welcome, kerft!
Hi, kerft,
Just getting caught up on your story here... your arches already look great so it would seem that your end result is going to be stunning and your treatment will be a relatively smooth journey. Salt-water rinses have worked great for me when the insides of my cheeks feel like hamburger (I must credit KK for that bit of advice)... I've had braces for 6 months and have never needed to use wax thanks to the salt water rinses (and the occasional Advil
)
Here's to great progress! See you in the forums!

I am coping, wax and salt water rinses to the rescue!!!!! plus 2nd week anniversary
Karen - Thanks for the tips, I now realise that after being home with no air conditioning and then moving to a fully air conditioned environment must have been the cause of my problem. The salt water rinses helped immensely, I also put a little wax on each of the brackets at the front to prevent further irritation. That saved me a lot of problems. Thanks for the advice on the ligs too, I will be careful next time I choose my colours. Curry is good and I don't plan to give it up!
victor36 - Thanks for the welcome, and your kind words. This board is really great, I don't have anyone to talk to about my issues whether good or bad and it's been so helpful being able to share with you guys!
Hurricane Dean
Well, my country is under threat from Hurricane Dean, on my last check it has moved to a Category 4. It moved from Cat. 3 to Cat. 4 in a matter of hours, so we are all playing the waiting game and watching the path the storm will take. Everyone is hoping that it will miss us but we can only hope. Getting home this evening was rough as there was so much traffic on the road with everyone trying to get their last minute supplies in the event that we get hit but this storm. We have been through it before so we can just hope for the best.

Hi Kerft,
I hear you about the lips -- my mouth has become pretty well acclimated to my braces now, but I do still have to be careful of the lips -- they still tend to rub a little sometimes. Especially true if, like you, I do a lot of talking.
Water and lots of lip balm, together with stepping up the salt water rinses, seems to help.
Continued success!

Karen - Acually the storm has not reached us yet. At the time of me writing this it is 7.45 pm on Saturday evening. We are not expected to start feeling the effects of the hurricane until Sunday evening and possibly into Monday.
All the supermarkets and hardware have empty shelves, no one is taking any chances with it as we are expected to take a direct hit.
This website shows the storm track:
http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tr ... ml#a_topad
The last hurricane that we had only passed on the south coast and caused a lot of damage, it did not make landfall so we are all concerned about Dean making a direct hit. But all we can do is hope for the best.
cwatt1 - - Thanks for sharing I have lip balm and water with me all the time now. It helps a lot!

Hurricane Dean update
The hurricane has passed and we survived. It did not make a direct hit (which we are thankful for) it passed to the south of the island but the band of wind and rain extended clear to the north coast. So far no reports of any deaths but there is extensive damage. In my neighbourhood there is evidence of the hurricane's passage all around there are downed trees and a couple of roofs started to life but my house is safe.
We are waiting to hear if the roads are clear so that we can go out. I don't think it will be possible until tomorrow based on the reports.
Jamaica is very lucky becuse if Dean made a direct hit we would have been in trouble.

I went out to work today and the roads are a mess, just up the road from me two power poles are tilting and one is totally down. That means no power for us anytime soon
it is going to take a while for the electricity company crews to make repairs. On the way to work I realised that none one of the traffic lights on my route are working so I have to be extra careful so that I don't have an accident.
It is so amazing the force of Mother Nature, there are so many trees down the whole place looks different, instead of lush trees they are either bare or just not there anymore. There is a lot of clean up to do, some people have to start over, I have to give thanks that all I had was a little water under my windows and doors.
We were scheduled to have general elections on the 27th of this month but it has been shifted to Sept. 3rd (the day of my first adjustment)! all because of the hurricane. I wonder if it will be possible for me to get adjusted at all! I guess we will see....
Laurie - It looks like you guys are safe it is now breaking up over Mexico.
Thanks to all you guys for having me in your thoughts during this challenging time.

Well here I am at work, and my lateral incisor is feeling like it is going to fall out of my mouth! It is really shaking...I guess that means that my teeth are moving!
It is weird how this all goes, it seems like one tooth then the other. But any progress is always good!
