Hello to everybody from a new metal mouth

#1 Post by HowlingWolf »

Just wanted to say hello to everybody. I finally had ceramic upper and lower braces put on yesterday and I'm pretty sore. I've been reading other posts for the past few months in anticipation and it's been real helpful knowing other's experiences. I'm really glad to have found this forum.

Congrad on getting braces. How long do you have? Will you post pictures?

I'll have them 1-2 years as far as I know, then lower jaw surgery. I would post pics as soon as I learn how.

Hi Howling Wolf. I felt like howling myself when I got my braces on  but now - nearly 2 weeks on - I sometimes almost forget they are there. Hope you stop feeling sore soon.

Thanks Sahara. Yeah, I'm not feeling so good right now...feel more like crying and whining wolf. I just had 2 extractions last week as well and that still hurts, with one more to go next month.

Thanks Kiwi & Lou. I really appreciate all the advice and stories on this site. Day 2 has been much much better although I did poke my finger trying to put some wax on for the first time.

The sutures from the extractions come off tomorrow as well and I'm looking forward to sounding more like myself soon.

Hi there!! I had my brace fitted 3 days ago. (Just upper ceramics) No pain in my teeth yet, but the insides of my cheecks r really sore. Also how long does it take before you can speak properly. I'm having real problems with "f"'s and "p"'s. I'm sure it will pass, but i'm on the phone all day and getting quite consious of it. I'm sure it will be worth it in the long run. :D

I'm still talking funny too, probably due to still having sutures from my extractions though.

I'm also extremely conscious especially when I'm in a meeting...I've been pretty quiet.

my partner and I got braced this morning, then went right to work. Both of our jobs require talking...he's a chef, and I'm a phys therapist. Several hours int he chair, lips yanked apart, snot running down your throat, nasty tasting ooze n stuff, and voila, I've got twice the material in my mouth I thought possible, however, went to work and started yakking as usual. I KNOW this is noticable to EVERYBODY. No one said a thing...no big deal. I've never felt this good about doing something for my own good as I do right now. Sore, well not really, but I took the Ibuprophen before the appt this morn. Learned that trick when my wisdoms came out. Surgeon said take them before the pain starts, before the inflamation starts. REally works.

Anyway, it's great to have a bunch of us newbies here right now. Brush good.

I've got some coworkers who apparently think it would be impolite to say "YOU HAVE BRACES !" so they are playing it off as if they couldn't really see them. Yah, if it's not braces, it looks like big smears of chocolate or something ! Fortunately my closer coworkers are not so PC and are making suitable inquiries and even jokes. :-)

Parr, how fun for you and your partner to go through this together !!! At least you'll both understand when the other is feeling a bit down, whether physically or mentally.

Hey howling Wolf. :-1

I got some new stuff to put on my sore cheeks, and silicon strips to put on the offending brackets and its wonderfull. I have no pain at all and feel like a new woman. I tried the wax which my ortho gave me which made me look like a manic vampire cause it was red

I smiling and grinning at everyone now :D

I'm bit worried about the weight loss though, 4lbs in 4 days!!!. I'm only little to begin with (hense the overcrowded teeth and a lot of extractions during my adulthood)) I did manage to suck on some chocolate last night washed down with a glass of wine and lots of tooth brushing afterwards. lol recon i needed the calories.

Hope you are continuing to improve

Traceymay-

Good to hear you're in no pain now.

I just had the sutures from the extractions removed today and am feeling much, much better too.

I'm seeing an oral surgeon for consultation on the last extraction today, then I'm off to Boston and New York for the next 2 weeks.

So all in all, Day 3 is going very good. :)
