Is there enough room to uncrowd my lower teeth ? (with pics)

#1 Post by toothhurty »

Hi,

I'm 41 and have had crowded lower teeth since I was a child. I really should have got them sorted out then, but didn't. I've finally decided to take the plunge and, so far, it's going ok. I had the upper brace fitted 6 weeks ago and the lower brace fitted last week. I've used about 6 packs of wax/silicon so far!

My question is, do you think there's enough room to straighten them out ? Has anyone else had similar crowding and now they are all straight ? My ortho plans to bring out my top teeth and then bring out my lower teeth (as both sets point inwards slightly). By bring them out and pulling them forward slightly it should create enough space. He's also planning on taking some of the side edges off the lower front teeth to make room (!?).

What do you reckon happy brace people ?

Here's the pics - taken 3 days ago (gruesome or what!):

hey toothhurty, I have very similar crowding on my bottom teeth also tha comes from my teeth falling inward. By bringing the teeth forward, they should align. A good ortho knows exactly what they are talking about!!! Keep up the great work and can't wait to see changes!

Easy peasy. Mine were much more crowded and I've been amazed by how much room has been made. You'll be delighted.

My daughters' were similar to that. And her treatment plan sounded similar. They flared them out slightly to make room now they are bringing them back in.

I bet you will be pleasantly surprised at how fast this happens too.

You'll be surprised what is possible with modern braces. My lower teeth started out very similar to yours (and a similar treatment plan too) and in under five months I have a lower arch for the first time in my life.

You're lucky to have ceramics on the lowers--mine are metal on the bottom. Good luck and keep us updated with your progress.

You will be amazed, Toothhurty, how quickly they straighten and how much room there actually is when the teeth are moved forward along the archwire.

I like your braces, too.

If it's any help, here are my bottom teeth, after 1 year, and without extractions:

I think there will be enough room as your arches widen... speaking of which... Kodius Champion: Your bottom arch looks amazing!
