worried...

#1 Post by heatherbug2416 »

i was looking back over the board and reading some of the earliest posts. based on everything i read there, no one has a success story to tell of invisalign. it looks like everyone posting on here had to end up getting braces and invisalign caused more problems than those that existed in the first place. it's worrying me! i have had the same dentist my whole life, and he's the one who first talked to me about invisalign. i have an overbite, but i've never had any bite problems or anything. i literally have one crooked tooth in my entire mouth. it's on top, right next to my left front tooth. the reason it's crooked is because of crowding on that side. i know some of that was due to my wisdom teeth coming in, but i had them removed before i started treatment. when i first talked to my ortho, he said invisalign would straighten my teeth with no problems, and he said it would also significantly improve my overbite. he said if i was just wanting straighter teeth, invisalign would be great, but if i wanted to improve my bite, too, to go with traditional braces. i chose invisalign because i've never had bite problems... but now i'm scared after reading all the posts on here! i'm about to switch to my 2nd trays, but the first ones don't go all the way up on top. they don't completely cover my two front teeth. that's how they fit from the beginning, though. am i freaking out for no reason?

well i had mentioned to my dentist that the one crooked tooth was bothering me, and asked him if it would be possible to veneer it. he didn't want to do that, though. he didn't want to have to build onto my teeth like that. i just want my teeth to be straight. i've never had any bite problems, and my dentist has always said that, too. my ortho and oral surgeon both thought i had had braces before but i just never wore my retainers so that one tooth shifted. they were shocked to hear i have never had them, so my teeth really aren't that bad at all.

The aligner should fit all the way up on your teeth. There should be no space between your teeth and the aligner, especially this early in your treatment. You will be able to see the aligner at the bottom of your tooth, it has some thickness to it that you will be able to see when you look closely. Also sometimes the aligners don't go all the way up your teeth - they may stop short of your gums, which isn't a problem.

Invisalign can work well in the right situations, and your ORthodontist can let you know whether yours is one of those situations (it sounds like he/she already did).

Remember: your orthodontist knows your dental history and orthodontic condition best. I can guide you toward better orthodontic information than if you were left on your own and hopefully in doing so play a small part in your quest to achieve a beautiful, fully functional smile, but you should consider your orthodontist the best source of information.

I'm very happy with the results of my Invisalign treatment! Similarly to you, I had one crooked tooth - which caused a pretty big space in front - that's now completely straight. I had minor bite problems, which I wasn't concerned about, that are now also fixed. I would never have traded my Invisalign for any other type of treatment and I got great results! Good luck!!
