Well hello everyone!

Its been a while since I posted so I thought I would update you. I was braced on the 10th Jan 2007 (NHS) and I should have had my first adjustment on the 5th March but my consultant was off work ill so it was cancelled.

Nearly 14 weeks later and I am still waiting despite having called several times. I was told I have an appointment at the end of May, by that time I will have been braced for 20 weeks without an adjustment!

I have rang again today as my wire has come off two of my lower brackets this morning and I am going to have it sorted but its a a broken braces clinic which means I probably won't see my ortho and as he is the only one who can make adjustments so I don't expect a adjustment while I'm there (Unless he is around and takes pity on me!)

Some of the upper wire has also slid out now and then, once it made a big loop at the side of my mouth that came out beyond my lips but thankfully it slid back into place again.

Maybe this is happening because it needs adjusting?

I am getting abit fed up with waiting, though its mostly very comfortable but waiting so long will lengthen the time I am braced and although I don't really mind my brace, I long to be brace free!

Has anyone else waited this long for an adjustment?

Sarah

Awww that stinks about how long they're making you wait! :x I must say I wouldn't be too happy about that. But, on a good note, your progress looks great so far! Keep taking pictures to record your progress through your journey - I have found that they really uplift you when you compare them to Day 1. I know I was feeling like things were changing SO SLOW in my mouth until I decided to take a progress picture nearly 5 months later! Let me tell you, after seeing those pictures I felt really happy to see the change!

I hope that you can get in for an adjustment soon...what have they told you when you kept calling them?

Hi there and thanks for the replies.

Well I went to the broken brace clinic and my ortho was there although I didn't really get an adjustment he did fit a new lower arch wire and changed the ligs. He said something about rotating a tooth, I didn't feel him do anything significant but a few hours later it feels quite sore and like it did when I first had the brace on. This is fine with me and at least something is happening again!

I have an appointmet for my 1st adjustment on the 16th May and I am looking forward to it although I am reminded that it can be uncomfortable for a few days afterwards.

I will express my concerns about having to wait so long, hopefully this was a one off not a sign of things to come.

Well thats the first adjustment over with!

It was great, no pain or discomfort really. I have new tooth at the front added to the brace now, it was too displaced before and they said it would be added after about 3 adjustments so I am so pleased that its been added. Also I have metal molar bands on my lower back molars so that will close the extraction sites, I have noticed that my bottom front teeth have been leaning forwards so this will also help to bring them back up straight oo.

I have another adjustment booked for 25th June - not even 6 weeks away - yay!

Stuck with the grey ligs because he didn't ask me it I wanted a different colour, just went ahead with grey and I decided to stick with Grey anyway because its my sisters big posh wedding on 13th July and I didn't want to chance having a bright pink mouth for it, just in case my appointent gets put back again!

Took some painkilers a while back and I can just start to feel some discomfort now :S I don't care though, I'm back on track! My treatment time doesn't seem to have suffered because of waiting 18 weeks for an adjustment, its stiil about 2.5 years.

Hi,

Not updated for a while so here I am!

Well, its been almost 8 months since my braces went on and I have seen massive improvements in that time.

Heres are some photos.

Four weeks after my brace went on

Image

...and now after nearly 8 months...

You can see the canine that was quite far back (next to my front teeth on the right as you look at it) has been brought forward quite alot. It still needs some rotating and shaping to make it look like a lateral insisor but its in a far better position now. My first pre molar will then be rotated to look like a canine.

I have had some wires come loose recently and I also have a powerchain (which, post curry has gone an attractive shade of yellow!) to close the gaps on my lower teeth. My top teeth have quite a few new gaps but I am not concerned, they will get closed in time.

I love my braces and the effects its having!

Just saying hello, Sarah!

And you're right about the canine -- it's really rounding into position! After shaping you won't be able to tell the difference from a lateral incisor.

Terrific progress!

Hi everyone!

I have had an adjustment today and now have pink ligs! (first time I have had a colour other than grey!) I think my daughters will like them and I love them :)

I have also seen my consultant, a good job too as he had lots of say about how things are going. I had to have some brackets changed as they were on the wrong teeth (ie, a canine bracket on my canine BUT its going to be an insisor so it actually needed an incisor bracket, same thing with my first premolar which is going to be a canine!)

I got rid of my stained powerchain and have a new clear one on (wow, looks loads better) they have stuck with the same wire but are going to change it next time for another grade.

Also next time, I am going to have my canine re-shaped so it will look like an insisor, have some powerchains at the top to close the gaps that have occured as the teeth have been alinged. Then my appointment after that I will be having micro screws on my lower back teeth to move then forward to close extraction sites. Apparantly this could cause my lower teeth to come back and exagerate my malocculsion but we'll see how it goes.

I only noticed the other day that my impacted wisdom tooth is now visable because the molar in front has moved forward but this is not causing any problems as yet so it will just have to be monitored for now.

So, everythings going just great!

Hi, its me again!

I had an adjustment yesterday so I thought I'd update you.

I have had my new lateral insisor (my "real" canine) shaped slightly so that it looks more like a lateral insisor, so the pointy bit is now gone :) Later in the treatment I will also have my central insisors and lateral insisor on the other side shortened slightly as they are quite big and this will make my new LI blend in better.

I have had ten bottom teeth wired together as they are now in a good position, however some of the wire is sharp and making me bleed, I had to put wax on it today, thats the first time in months that I've needed wax.

They did some measurements to see how my midlines are doing, bottom is good and upper is not bad. I have an 9mm overjet and a 4mm overbite.

My top four teeth now have a powerchain on as they have become quite gappy, it will be good to see them come together now they are all aligned!

I also have an elastic on my right side, connecting my upper normal canine to a lower second molar to bring the canine back. This feels fine, although I did think it would feel lopsided but its quite comfy and I have even been able to eat with it on.

I have stuck to pink ligs for now as I really like them! I have another adjustment in four weeks when I will have photos and x-rays done and on Feb 5th I have micros screws fitted which sounds exciting!

I must admit my teeth are uncomfortable at the moment, they feels very sensitive to pressure and I'm taking a few painkillers but I don't really mind, every day is a day closer to that brilliant smile we all dream of.

Woohoooo..............Its my braces first birthday, wow a whole year gone already and its been so much easier than I thought it would be, only another year or two to go!

I have seen so many changes over the last 12 months and its been incredible, I had a whopping gap at the front which has now all but gone and my teeth in general are looking so much straighter now :)

I will post another photo after my next appointment on 4th Feb, I have a power chain at the top front and its abit of a yuk colour at the moment!

I am having my micro screws fitted at my next appointment and with any luck my powerchain will be gone for good, my elastic has been doing a good job of pulling my right canine along so its more in line with the one of the other side but I have quite a noticeable gap there now. My front two teeth are closer together now than they were a few weeks ago when I had quite a large gap between them but they don't seem as straight, one is slightly forward of the other, all minor things though!

I'll update with photos again soon!

I am excited for your new pics. When I first looked at your page, I thought to myself that your upper arch was similar to my bottom one--only with the adult teeth erupting behind the baby ones. My are bracketed, but not yet in the archwire.

Your teeth and upper arch, I'm sure, are looking great. Can't wait to see it--in the meantime, good luck with everything.

Hi everyone - update time for me!

Had an ortho visit today and theres good and bad news.

First the bad, my front right tooth may have died. I can't remember it taking a serious knock, just not sure how it could have happened. I noticed it had a blue/grey tinge before Christmas yet no one else seemed to be able to notice it but I mentioned it today and my ortho could see it and so could my consultant. I had an x-ray which didn't show anything up and they did a test where they held a frozen swab on it to see if I could feel it, I couldn't feel much :( I feel quite sad about it becasue I don't want my tooth to look a different colour from the others and don't know why its happened. My dentist will do more tests and work out what to do.

Has anyone had this happen to them?

The good news is that I have had a titanium micro screw fitted, its between the roots of my lower canine and premolar and its providing an anchor so that my back molar can be pulled along. I had some the area numbed then they drilled into my jaw, inserted the screw and wired it up to the molar. It feels fine :)

I hoped my elastic band and powerchain would go today but no such luck, the elastic is moving my right upper canine back so that my front teeth can all be shifted that way to correct my mid line.

Here are some new photos.

So, thats all folks (for now)
