My first 5 days were 5 BAD days: sores, pain, sores and more pain. I went and had a ridge trimmed by the Dentist. It stopped the irritation. I had developed a significant sore on my tongue. I have a lingual lean of my teeth (they lean toward my tongue) to begin with. My dentist also gave me a steroid wash that I swooshed in my mouth for 2 minutes and spit it out. I had to only do that 3 times and it was much better. I am on day 6 and I forgot to take them out for breakfast until I was putting cereal in my mouth! I guess I am getting use to them.
Not one patient or staff member or Doctor has noticed my invisaligns. Not even my kids could tell even after I showed them. My parents did not either. My spouse is supportive as she said stick with it (she had braces as a kid and warned me the first week would be the worse). I told one young staffer who finished with braces 5 years ago--she is my cheerleader and keeps telling me to hang in there. She is the one to tell me to call the Dentist when I had problems to see if there was something he could do to help the sores on my tongue. No one else will know if I do not tell them.
My Dentist is a friend and he did not pressure me at all. I do need 20 trays top and 15 bottom. No teeth shaving or thinning was needed. Yes, I will need to wear my last tray 2 months after I am "done". Then for 12 hours a day for another couple months. Finally, only to bed and I can even cut that to a few PMs a week. I think that if you want to do this and you are a candidate, go for it.
I did research the Dentist before I used my friend. I looked on Invisalign's website for a Dentist or Orthodontist. They have them ranked on 3 levels based on number of cases. My Dentist was in the mid grade and the only one in my county above the basic qualifications.
