Congratulations on taking this step, whoaskew! Great to have you here and I'm glad this site was so helpful to you in making your decision. Sounds like you really put some thought into it and connected with an ortho you like and trust. Good for you!

Take good care :!:

It has only been one week since my b-day and I have already noticed some changes.

1. I noticed that the "midline" of the two front teeth on my upper arch is now matching up with the midline of the two front teeth of my lower arch.

2. I noticed that my lower arch is now more "rounded" and less "square." It also appears narrower.

3. I also noticed that my upper arch appears wider. I presume that this will help correct my crossbite, by providing room for my teeth to line up.

That is a lot of change in a relatively small amount of time. What is weird is that for this past week, I have been noticing a LOT of people smiling at me and I can literally sense them relaxing. When I see them smiling at me, I begin to smile back, but then I realize that I already have been smiling. It is almost like I am radiating positive energy. It is amazing how a small change in me can have such an effect on so many people.

If anyone is still undecided about whether they want to do this or not, I say do it. It is exciting and feels wonderful to see and to feel your body undergo positive changes. This must be what it feels like when you start to see results from working out. Maybe I'll start that next. :D :D :D

Hardest part right now is deciding what colour ligatures to get... :D

Good Luck!
Alright!!! I know you can hardly wait!

As far as colors to get, my ortho had like 30 to choose from. I decided on dark blue. I would have chosen clear or white, but based on what I have read here, those would have stained too easy. I chose the dark blue ligatures because I actually wanted them to be seen. In fact, if I had to do it all over again, I probably would have gotten all silver instead of ceramic on the top arch.

It is funny how things change because when I first considered braces, the only thing that I thought I would go for are the "invisible" kind and now I actually want my braces to be seen.

My advice, go bold. Find something that stands out and screams confidence.

After all, if your ortho is like mine, you can stop in anytime and get the color changed if you change your mind later.

I actually had to take these pics by myself. I had no help, but did the best I can.

During these last 2 weeks, the changes have become more subtle. They have been nowhere near as drastic as the first week, but I am still seeing progress.

Next week I'll be going back to the ortho to get my wire changed and I am looking forward to what they say about my progress.

Congrats on taking that first step. Always the hardest part :)

The first several months of being braced are the most fun because that is when everything moves the most.

After that the movement slows and the amount of appliances in your mouth increase - not as fun ;)

I took these pics last week, but was unable to post them due to internet problems. These were done on Wednesday.

My first appointment since I got my braces was last week on Thursday. I had the dark blue ligs for the past four weeks and I decided to get silver ligs this time. I expected them to stand out, but they appeared pretty discreet to me. Well, I better get used to them as my next appointment isn't for six weeks.

I was looking at my original and my most recent pics and there has been a dramatic improvement. I almost didn't even recognize my own teeth. I am extremely satisfied with the process so far.

During my appointment last week, the ortho talked about how impressed he was with my progress. A few other people on the staff actually came by the chair to see and they all made comments about how impressed they were. He told them about some new wire that they had used on me. Before I left, he told me that the next time he saw me, which will be the first week of November (6-weeks), my teeth will be almost totally straight.

At that point I will have finished 2 months of my 24 month braces program.

Is that what everyone is talking about when they say all the noticeable progress occurs in the first few months?

What is it that he will be "fine-tuning" over the last 22 months of my program?
