I bought a spray for dry mouth at Walgreens but chewing gum and drinking lots of fluids helped as well.

There are numerous hydrating mouth rinses available OTC, just check your local pharmacy/food store. I have patients that have had good luck with Biotene. Is your dry mouth something new that you are experiencing or has it been going on for a long time? Also be aware that certain diets or medications can also cause dry mouth so it is something to consider or talk with your dentist/hc provider about.

Good Luck,
Rory

Wow thanks to everyone for the advise... I did look at my mouthwash they both have alcohol in them... so at lunch I stopped at the store and got the non-alcohol brand and got chewing gum as well.... oh also bought some super cute pink nail polish...  (I knew u all wanted to know that!!!)

RORY my dry mouth is very new started since my braces. It doesnt happen till after lunch (which I then brush and mouthwash up) so today I only brushed/water/gum :P I will look at the store for the Biotene thank u again for all your help :P

So glad to hear I am not the only one with this problem---I have had my upper braces for 2 weeks, and my lower braces for 3 days. Between the extremely dry mouth and the heinous canker sores...it hasn't been a lot of fun. I am definitely going to go and get some mouthwash for dry mouth tonight.

I figured I would post this here since it deals with the dry mouth issue....What about when you have dry mouth and you know that its a result of a medication? I take a medicine that causes dry mouth, so it doesn't seem to matter how much water I drink, my mouth is still dry.

Hi Higgy,

You should have a talk with your Dentist and/or MD about your current xerostomia issues and discuss medication management. See if there are alternative meds that you can take that may lessen the symptoms, or certain times you can change up the schedule of your meds so that the "worst" "dry" times are in the middle of the day when you better manage the moisture level with water and other moisture rich materials. There are also certain prescription meds that may potentially alleviate your symptoms.

Good Luck,
Rory

Yeah, I'll have to give them a call I guess...the med is taken 3x a day, so timing doesn't really help much at all, the last dose I take around 7pm, so there is a good bit of time before then and when I go to bed. How does the "Biotene"? mouthwash stuff work?

Mark from UK has told us, braces need watering. (I thought that was funny so I remembered it. It is also SO TRUE!!!)
