Brushing/Flossing Time

#1 Post by bracesafter40 »

How much time does it take you to get your brushing/flossing done?
For me, it takes:

Brushing: 2.5 minutes
Listerine: 0.5 minute
Flossing: 10 minutes
Adding Fluoride: 1.5 minutes every other day

So 13 minutes without Fluoride and 14.5 minutes with Fluoride. I do Fluoride and flossing only at night and mouthwash is normally done at least twice a day; morning and night.

I typically brush 3 times a day, floss at night (sooo time consuming, so I only do it when I have to), and do a flouride at night.

Brushing 4 mins
Flossing 5 mins
Flouride 1 min
Listerine 5 secs (it always burns my mouth)

I am down to 10 minutes for the flossing now. Oh my god when I first got the braces it took more than 20 minutes ! Lots of stuck floss, cutting out shreds, and I had to acquire skill to push the threaders around my banded first molars. I still struggle with one gap but I'm better than before.

I brush twice, floss once (usually at night). I apply wax every night, thin strips that cover most of the brackets upper and lower and blobs to cushion my cheeks against the upper molar band attachments.

Cool; 5 minutes for flossing, good deal; I do a brush during the day after lunch; otherwise I talk with food in my mouth all the time; that just takes about 2-3 minutes though; no Listerine or anything like that.

Morning

~ Sonicare - Either one or two full cycles.
~ Proxabrush, 1 min
~ Electric flosser 1min

After lunch

~ ortho travel brush and sensodyne for 3 minutes
~ sometimes proxabrush, depending on what I had for lunch

Night time

~ Extra soft manual or Sonicare, depends on how tired I am. 3 minutes
~ proxabrush 1min
~ superfloss 4min
~ irrigating syringe, my make shift waterpic 30sec
~ fluoride rinse 1.5 min

It takes me about 10 minutes to brush up at night. Before it used to take me a half hour to get through it all. I was so slow and my teeth were so sore, flossing and brushing took forever.

I only floss at night, but I always brush after I eat during the day.

At night my routine is:

Brush : 4 minutes
Floss : 5 minutes (use to be 10, but I've gotten better :) )
Mouthwash : 1 minute

I have been thinking about this question since seeing the original posting...

Well I actually think that flossing takes less time than before having braces - and I manage to do a much better job also. Before, I would consider it a major achievement just to get the floss to go between my teeth and this would cause a lot of trauma to my gums. I used to use several different types of floss - because some stuff was better than others to get between various teeth!

Now, it is so simple, I just rinse, use the little brush, brush, floss and rinse again. What's more, I know my teeth are a lot cleaner!

I didn't even know they made an electric flosser. Sounds very interesting. I haven't paid attention to the time it takes me to brush.

I just got my uppers on so I typically brush in the morning and rinse.

After lunch I rinse.

At night I brush, floss, and rinse.

Once I start eating more "real" food I'll probably adjust to brushing at lunch. I think the most it takes me is 10-15min.

My routine:

morning: brush 6 minutes (I have a nifty hour glass that counts down three minutes for this, so I do one side for three minutes, the other for the next three)

after eating: swish water, use proxy brush, then brush 3 minutes.

Before bed: Brush 6 minutes, floss (usually takes about 3-5 minutes), mouthwash approximately 30 seconds, then fluoride brush for one minute.

brush after breakfast lunch and dinner, proxibrush after all three, salt rinse after breakfast, mouthwash breakfast and dinner, and if I have a late cuppa tea or a drink, which is likely, always before bed a major clean up doing all the above and my flossing. I only have lowers. Uppers are invisalign so they are easy to clean but even more important as they are covered 20+ hours a day by a plastic trap for acids sugars etc. THe dentakit is a lifesaver and a toothsaver.

how long does it take... well the longest is before bed...15 min. the others are about 7 min.
