Food/Eating Woes :( ....w/ a happy ending

#1 Post by ibraceface »

Who misses tortilla chips and oreos? Heck- I sure do!!

Don't know about yall- but eating has gone from an enjoyable hobby- to a frustrating chore! I used to look forward to meals out with friends. But now I just dread them because it means, soft foods, breaking food in tiny pieces, and spending an hour in the mirror picking mess out of my teeth!

So.. I don't know about yall, but I am completely frustrated with this whole "eating thing". I am terrified to eat crunchy/hard things because I don't want to damage my ibraces. New brackets take weeks to order- and I simply don't want to delay my treatment by breaking a bracket that'll take so long to order.

I have pretty much figured out I can have anything- as long as I break it up in small pieces and put it in the back of my mouth. Should I be getting used to this for the duration of my treatment? Should I say goodbye to biting into things??

Anyways- over the past few weeks I've slowly started finding out things that I am able to eat!

And here's my happy ending...

I thought we could all share foods we're comfortable eating without causing breakage, and some more risky foods that haven't posed a problem thus far. Oh... and maybe some ideas for Halloween braces-friendly candy??

Here's my list:

- Soft tacos (ground beef or diced chicken)
- Cheese burittos, cheese quesadillas
-Chicken fingers
- French fries/ tator tots
-Bagel bites
- Pizza rolls
-Thinly sliced turkey
- Sara Lee "smooth and soft" bread
-Ravioli
-Tortilini
-Mac and Cheese (duh)
- Baked potatoes
- Shrimp
-Pancakes (my favorite!!)

Also- don't know about you guys- but I sure do miss sinking my teeth into a cheeseburger, eating popcorn at a movie, and chicken wings!! I sure do feel sorry for myself on Mexican Mondays when all my friends are ripping into the tortilla chips and cheese dip! I miss those days!!

Haha- I have only been braces for a month- and I am already imagining the feast I'll have when these things come off!

Hope yall will feel free to share your list- because I'm tired of eating the same ole things!!!

Hi Kate,

Your soft food list looks like it has enough nutrition to be getting you through the early days. Good stuff. If you haven't already, check out the soft food suggestions on this board to add to your list.

I don't have a braces food list as I eat anything I want. In time - and this may not be too far away for you - you should be able to join your friends in a Mexican Monday tortilla chip feast. And bite into a cheeseburger.

Hello Kate!

I know what you mean (i've just had my braces as well)! Eating used to be such an enjoyable activity but now I am eating the same foods my grandmother is eating because she has no teeth haha.

Hang on there, I think we will be able to bite into a Double Whopper in the near future :)

Maybe we should make a lingual braces society and go out every Monday for a Soft food feast hehehe.

Thanks for the advice lionfish!!

Chesters- haha, I know what you mean! I feel like grandma too!

I sure do wish there were more ibrace people around because a soft food fest sounds like fun!!

Luckily I have some good friends who are throwing a fondue party in my honor since i CAN DO cheese and bread, hahaah!

On the subject of fondue, chocolate fondue is pretty good too. Chocolate coated strawberries would be ideal!

I eat whatever. After the first month I really quit caring and just went back to enjoying everything. The only food that you really want to avoid in October are Happy Apples. The peanuts could easily break something. Otherwise, I'll spend my Halloween eating Sugar Babies.
