Really, really Concerned about getting 8! molar bands :(

#1 Post by genoisegurl »

On Tue, I was fully braced with metal upper and lowers and four molar bands on the 1st molars. One bracket popped loose just a couple hrs after being glued on. The next day, I returned to glue the bracket back on and the ortho said I needed bands on the 2nd molars as well. he said it was for stability. I was not happy esp since the spacers had to go back in for 3 weeks!
Huh, the same! bracket came loose few hrs after it was fixed.
Anyway, I'm concerned about my bottom right 2nd molar. The height of this tooth is flush with the gum next to it (where the wisdom tooth is hiding). How are they going to band that tooth without literally cutting and slicing into my gum on that side? That's going to hurt bad. :( Then the other 2nd molar has a partially erupted wisdom tooth next to it and will be a nightmare to clean if banded. is it okay to object to the 2nd molars being banded? will my ortho hate me? Please help me; its bothering me alot!! Thanks!

I have 6 bands including my top 2nd molars. One of those teeth was tilted and therefore partially in the gum, but surprisingly enough the band didn't really hurt going in. I won't deny that it takes extra work to keep things clean. You have to be very diligent with flossing and a Waterpik comes in very handy.

But as Meryaten (so rightly) says, speak to your ortho if you're worried and see what he says. He might be able to proceed without banding if you really feel that you don't want them.
