Do you drink soda/pop????

#1 Post by discomom »

I am just wondering. I know that I have seen on here before a post about not drinking pop or carbonated beverages. I am right about seeing that? I am a pop drinker terribly. It's diet but still it's not water. I wanted to know if pop was forbidden or just something you could do occasionally. Thanks and sorry if this has been asked a million times. Lori

Hi there!
I just loved pop too all diet . Since I have been braced I don't drink half as much and make sure that I just drink water through the day but I sometimes give in and have some pop at night but I always try and brush my teeth afterwards because I am so afraid that it is really bad for me! I not sure how bad it is so I would quite like a reply to your question too!!!??

No I try not to drink soda very often, even diet is bad for your metabolism, etc. Too many chemicals and no good stuff. I like to be able to pronounce most of what I ingest ;) I do like tea and things like pomegranate juice, and drink lots of water throughout the day.

I drink a soda or some juice with seltzer water once or every other day. I use a straw and drink tons of water while and after the soda. No big deal, just keep rinsing and brush after my meals.

Same here...I love adding a bit of juice to seltzer water. I still get the taste im looking for but less sugar. Afterward a swish with water and a good brushing. I just had my teeth cleaned "my 6 month cleaning" 1st time w/braces and my dentist said I was doing great...no cavaties thank God!!!! It was very strange having the wire out and my teeth free wheeling it for a couple of hours. I have some loosies in there and it did not feel good. The girl that did my teeth was very gentle and considerate of my situation and supported each tooth. : )

I drink soda constantly, always have, and I've never had a problem with weakened enamel or anything similar. I switched to diet soda maybe 3-4 years ago, and I noticed no ill effects as a result of the switch.

I'm of the belief that it's important to stay hydrated, and how you do it is up to you. Diet sodas often have sodium, so you have to keep that in mind, as well as any effects you personally might have from artificial sweeteners.

Have you tried green tea? It's refreshing, full of antioxidants and doesn't stain. It doesn't dissolve teeth or make you fat.

I have a friend who started calling sodas "Bloat Juice" in reference to how they make you feel, so now whenever I think of drinking a soda, I think "bloat juice" and don't really want it anymore!

Also, remember that diet sodas have aspartame, poison!

I gave up soda cold-turkey when my braces went on. I drank iced tea, flavored fizzy water or just plain water when I wanted something cold. One of the problems with soda is the sugar or sugar substitute and another is the citric acid. Occasionally, I drink diet tonic and I was surprised to see that it had citric acid as well.

And, SnowSara, most diet sodas have switched to Splenda instead of aspartame these days. I don't really like Splenda because I think it has a funny aftertaste, so it was easier for me to give up diet soda!

It's all personal choices and balancing alternatives. Tea, coffee and red wine have tannins which can stain your teeth (I found this out when I was getting ready to use Chlorhexidine mouthwash which has staining as a side effect, made worse by the tannins), soda has other issues.

So choose your battles and do what you can live with!

Thank you, Meryaten. I forgot to add that, as far as I can tell, beer is one of the best things that you can drink - no staining, no artificial sweeteners, ...
What more could you ask for?

i've always believed that's the best way... although i'm far too lazy to get straws ready so i just skip fizzy drinks
on this yahoo answers site - i found these links, courtesy of the user 'nashgirl21', they were pretty interesting -
