Cold sore- suggestions?
I have a nasty cold sore that is getting worse instead of better. Abreva isn't doing the trick at all. Suggestions out there?
I ,too, am prone to cold sores. I have tried absolutely EVERYTHING. For me Abreva never helped shorten the healing time as it claimed. I have found that the best thing is hydrogen peroxide. I put a little on a cotton ball and hold it on there for a couple of minutes. I use it in the morning and at night before bed. It stopped that itchy feeling and dried it up faster than anything I have ever used. I definitely feel for you. When I was younger I use to get them worse than I do now. Just remember DO NOT touch them. Hope this helped!
If none of the above suggestions work (but I hope they do!), you may want to go to your doctor and ask for an Rx for Denavir. It's a cream that comes in a little tube like Abreva, but it's Rx strength, and I find that it works wonders. I am prone to cold sores as well, and I always make sure I've got some of this stuff in my medicine cabinet. It's the best thing I've ever tried, and believe me, I've tried a lot!
Hope you get some relief soon!!

Cold sores are caused by a virus which makes them ridiculously hard to treat - especially once they've already formed.
Maybe a health care professional can prescribe something stronger for you than Abreva?
Something like Denavir or Zovirax http://www.animated-teeth.com/cold_sore ... ations.htm

I'll second lysine...I am prone to cold sores they used to drive me batty at least once a year, then I started using lysine and it cleared right up...now as soon as I feel that dreaded tingling I take 2 3x a day for a day or so. Usually I can catch it in time and never actually see a sore but if I do get one it goes away within a day or so.
I am quite experienced with these terrible sores so I can say I have tried everything mentioned so far except peroxide. I'll give that a try!
2 things I know work well. At the 1st sign of a tingle take prescription valtrex. It is prescribed for herpes (which is the virus of a cold sore) and I have experienced more than one disappear within hours! I was out...
2nd (which was my last resort today since I left my meds at home) is to constantly keep vaseline in it. Wipe away the oozy sores and reapply. You get much faster healing and no cracking or bleeding. Looks amazing after 24 hours! You can put meds on it under the vaseline but the layer keeps the meds on and promotes the healing much faster. I learned that trick a year ago and both times worked better than anything. I wish I would have know years ago.
Thanks for your input.

Has anyone noticed getting more cold sores after beeing braced?
I had as a chlidren regulary cold sores - but since allmost 10 years i have them just once every 1-2 year.
I am just wondering because in 2 weeks i have to deal with.
btw. i tryed allmost everything but nothing helped to heal faster - so i stopt to do anything about it, and try just to don't touch them - so it's getting better after 2 or 3 days.
