Kate,
That was great information, thanks! I was wondering why does it feel like I'm drooling like a Great Dane, all the time...
About the lisp, I'm a bit worried, also.
Mark, I think we got our braces on the same day
I'm at day7 today and have figured out the same as Kate, if You speak with an open mouth, articulating, enunciating really well, nobody notices a lisp at all (I still think I have it... )
I'm more worried about the lisp getting worse, when the lower ibraces go on (in 2 weeks for me). Any advice on that? Should I expect that the soreness will be the same as on the first day, and the speech issues?
Thanks Everybody for everything. Having You is GREAT.

Thanks Kate for the info
Thank you Kate for the suggestions and the info on covering the wire. That has been the worst part of the whole experience. My tongue was literally raw and scarred from the wire stabbing into my tongue. I will mention the glue with my Ortho guy.
I do think that my mouth is starting to "calm down" and my speech is slowly sounding better but I'm fearful that it's never going to be 100% (right now it is about 70%). Pretty much everyone still notices something is wrong with my speech pattern no matter how much water I drink or how concious I am to over enunciate my words. It is really frustrating but I'm now in this thing for the long haul. So I'm trying to just live with it for the next year and a half.
Good luck to all.
Mark

Hello EmmaDee
Emma Dee.
I really think that the lisping comes more from the upper linguals. The bottom linguals cause more problems with eating that anything. I wish you well with your first few days. They are really just the "adjustment" phase and that for me was really aweful. The funny thing is I got these iBraces on because I am vain and didn't want anyone to know I had braces and my speech pattern was never really a thought. However, it has been the worst part of the experience.
Reread Ruby Tuesdays entry from Nov 2nd. That enrty helped me the most. I wish you well and we are all here for you if needed.
Take care and rest that tongue with wax and brace Ez. That stuff is incredible. It is like cement and you can still eat and it doesn't move! I love that stuff. Just google the name and they ship it really fast.

Hey Mark,
THANK YOU for the support and tips.
I actually did Google Brace EZ, but got a lot of links for metal building manufacturers...
hm...
could You tell me what this stuff is, I never heard of it & could be really helpful now, as I had a bracket come off on Friday and the wire poking my tongue for a few hours, 'til my ortho put the bracket back on, killed it and it really hurts... (for the first time...)
I re-scheduled getting my lowers... so the big day is tomorrow... I'm just hoping I'll be able to eat somehow...
Good luck with the speech, I'm really sorry it's such a dissapointment for You. Hope it will get much better very very soon.
Best,
Emma

Hi Emma-
Sorry so late on a reply. The web site for Brace-Eze is: http://www.braceeze.com/.
This stuff is really hard to get out of the tube but works almost like cement once it hardens. Plus, it only take a very small amount to take care of any discomfort. For tongue pain, I bought Colgate Orabase "Soothe-N-Seal" to cover up tongus trauma and I leave it on at night and by morning the wound is usually ALOT better.
Also, I found "Go-Betweens" made by G-U-M at the Drug store and I use it to get food out of the brackets after eating and to floss . That really helps with cleaning.
These products have helped me the most with my speech and mouth pain. I noticed that if my tongue is not sore that I speak tons better. As for my own speech, I think I'm finally at about 95%. Most people just think I have a retainer in my mouth now.
Good luck to anyone new to the site with I-braces. I hope this helps.
