Hey there every1! Hope u're all doing well. Been sooo busy lately, not had a chance to get on here. Expander is still in, might be coming out next month, i have power chains & springs on my bottom teeth & those are moving towards the back! Yay! Have one last tooth on the top that is almost in its place, but yes the gap is still there. Much smaller, I'm kinda used to it now. Lol!
I had one question though, i noticed that my palate expansion might be a little ASYMMETRICAL!!! Tan-tan-ta!!! Lol! Only on the right side, even my nose looks different on the right side! Has any1 else ever had this experience? I know it's definitely a little off, because when u look in my mouth the back of my right side teeth tip out more than my left side! I had been thinking all this time, that it was just my imagination, but in all honestly, I think i was right. I broke my nose when i was about 11yrs old, it hurt for years after that, but now i guess it settled & didn't hurt anymore till after the palate expansion & in pictures its off too & now i can see it in the mirror! Ay-yay-yay!! Anyone have any advice Pls?
I will be uploading more recent pics after my next visit to my ortho in 2-3wks. Hope u're all doing well.

My ortho showed my mum how to do it, and now she has mastered the turning of the screw (genius reference, ahem  ) and we're on turn 14 now. My ortho commented on how swollen I was, and that I looked like I'd had a full osteotomy. I saw Brandy's pictures of her swelling for the major surgery, and I was like that or maybe more so! I dread to think how huge my head will be when I come to have it done, even whether I'll be able to fit through a door, lol.

My gap is awesome, but I'm sure when I get to the planed 10mm, I may feel differently about it :D . I am getting slight headaches now, with a slight discomfort in my temples when I swallow, but it is the slightest thing and doesn't really bother me.

I went to see my surgeon on Monday and she said I was doing great- and keeping a spotless mouth, might I add  . Another dude came to have a good stare in my mouth too as he (whoever he is) has never seen a large expansion like mine- but my gap isn't that big yet...

Tomorrow I have to see my ortho for a check up, but I have to get up really early, queue in traffic and then queue to get into the hospital car park, and I'll only be there about 5 minutes I should imagine. Ugh, what a moaner I am :D

I went out for a walk yesterday- nothing too stenuous- but it was pretty cold (it's the UK, come on) and my nose started bleeding, but then stopped as quickly as it had started. So whether that was the weather or what I don't know

Good luck, Delag- hope everything works out for you!

I do know what you mean i have that same problem but i dont go into the ortho until jan 2nd but you are not alone ! My teeth are more messed up now than before but the braces i am sure will fix that. But that does raise a question which i will ask when i go in about the expander but i do have complete faith in my ortho and surgeon ? My teeth are bowed out and out of wack! But i still feel i made a good choice! i needed 11 mm expansion and had a whole tooth size gap and now its about 1/3 the size it was. I stopped turning around nov 5th. its seems its closing up pretty good. I feel as if i am the story of the ugly duckling whose mouth looks really ugly but in the end i will have a beautiful smile  i was swollen really bad but its almost completly gone except for a little by my sinuses.
i turned my expander everyday myself except for i didnt turn allthe way so the hole got caught in a mid turn. Went into the ortho they turned it for me as no one else in my house could get it too turn. But i made sure that i totally turned it after that! it was no big deal with me a little akward but i got over that after the first turn! Joy

How did you possibly manage to turn it yourself? I thought 'oh, it will be a piece of cake' but I couldn't for the life of me manage to do it- or even find a way to see into my mouth

My husband cranked my expander for the first few days, after that I did it twice a day myself. Once you get used to doing it, it really is a piece of cake. I used a hand held magnifying mirror to see the key hole, after that it was simple a matter of pushing it the right way. The thing about the expanders that is sorta weird is I think the normal inclination is to make the key come forward and instead you push it backwards. It is sortof strange, but you do get used to it.

I used a little dental mirror at first (only the first week) but ended up not using it after that. I managed to get the hole. You become familar with your mouth and it was weird at first but hey if someone does it thats fine too. i was a little sensitive about anyone doing it for me. For me i much rather had done it myself. your face is swollen and i didnt want anyone touching my face. Joy

I have a slight worry now that's getting me down- although I've had a cold and fever all week that is wearing me out so that probably has something to do with it :x - when the expander was turned this morning my whole upper jaw hurt like hell, and didn't subside for a good 15 minutes. Normal? Hope so :?

I wouldn't be too worried. If it's only this once, and it only lasted 15 minutes, and you are sick to begin with, I think you are OK. I was expecting pain, but never had any. If it were constant pain or you were in a lot of pain every time you expanded, then I'd be a little more concerned. Hope you feel better soon.
