Hi Guys hope your all ok, I dont want to waffle on so heres my story breifly so far. One yr ago I went to my dentist and asked to be referred to an orthodontic surgeon because of my lower jaw protruding and making me feel depressed. So far Ive had two appointments with the surgeon, One was to get my pics taken and stuff and the second one was to go through the procedure, the risks and stuff etc. What Im worried about is:
Years ago I had two 'fangs' in the upper part of my mouth either side of my top front teeth, (im sure u know where) which were removed and bridges were put in to create a more straight appearance, The problem is,, before I can be braced, these need to be removed as they would stop the brace moving my teeth as the bridges are permanent an will not move. Does this mean that I would be braced and left with just two front teeth and huge gaps or can they make a brace with 'false' teeth on so that I dont end up with a huge gap, its the only thing Im worried about!
I so cant wait to have this over with and feel good about the way I look.
PS I hope this doesnt make me sound vain I really am not, and apologies for the spelling and grammar I just needed to get it down before I forgot!

I don't understand why they have to be removed. I had a whole lower bridge that covered my rear molar first and second one. They put brackets on it and we were able to get my teeth lined up with out changing or doing anything to the bridges. Since the are independent bridges, only over one tooth each I would think they could just bracket them and treat them like the other teeth I mean basically they are just crowns over your real tooth right?

Hi Brandy, my bridges are actually two toothsworth of space as I had fangs removed which were huge so it replaces quite a big gap, I was told that they would prevent any pressure being applied to my two front teeth as they are so big!

My co-worker had a fake front tooth. His orthodontist gave him a retainer that fit inside to "hold the place" while moving the other teeth around. He will be getting an implant next month. Maybe that kind of option will work for you. You should talk to your doc about it. The doc may not realize this is big deal for you. Some docs are oblivious. One I saw before making the final decision set a time line of me having the surgery one month before I got married. He just didn't see what the problem would be.
