Diastema switching?

#1 Post by Devushka »

Hi all!
So a bit of a low down on me since I haven't really posted here. I have a decently sized diastema which is the main reason I am getting invisalign. That and they are pushing my two front teeth up as they are quite large. I seriously have rabbit teeth. Ha ha ha. I DO have an overbite which I realize won't be fixed, but I can live with that. Uh whatelse. I am getting my impressions at the beginning of January which is why I had my teeth cleaned today.

So, I went for my regular cleaning in my hometown and told my dentist and hygenist how I was getting invisalign and they worried me a bit(I am getting my orthodontic work done where I currently live, in a city)

They mentioned to make sure that my ortho will give me a frenectomy(I already knew that I will need it, not a big deal) but they both seemed very skepticle of invisalign becuase of the high case of bites being ruined/further ruined. I will take my chances with that, but they also mentioned that invisalign just shifts gaps. Since mine is between my first two insicors they said I could later just have a space between my last two molars or something and will be prone to cavities because it will be more likely to fill up with food. I was under the impression that invisalign shifted ALL the teeth together. I mean, I have read blogs of people with diastemas, close to the same size as mine even and I have never heard any of them talk about having gaps in their other teeth when they have completed their treatment. Have you guys heard of this, or was this just a big scare tactic my lifelong dentist used on me?

It's kinda fun to watch how the gaps move! I've had gaps all over the place with different trays. But, since the invisalign is also pushing my teeth back some, all that's left is a teeny tiny gap on the right side. Hopefully it will also close with 2 more trays. My front 2 teeth are actually touching now!

Thats so exiting! Yay for you!

I am exited to watch mine close together, eventually.

And thanks Meryaten for your comment. It really helped me feel more at ease. I think he was just being a bit protective. Seems like he didn't know my expectations of the treatment. Great to hear that yours settled and don't cause any problems :)

Nope, hopefully will see the clincheck later next month. I am very exited to see that though.
