I live in Orlando, Florida and I'm paying $4,050, my insurance covers $2,000 and I put $550 down and I'm paying $150 a month for 10 months. That includes ceramic uppers, metal lowers, and retainers.

Since I'm going the "less than perfect" route, mine will only cost about $3000, with insurance covering 1/2. All of the other ortho's I consulted quoted in the $5k range for the "more is better" option. I'll probably wind up paying even more than that when I'm done assuming I opt for some cosmetic work. I paid $4800 for each of my kids, and one needed much more extensive work than the other. I'm in the Pacific Northwest.

$5350AUD with a $1250 deposit and $400 monthly payments. At least I think its that much. Could be $400 quarterly but that seems like an awful long time to pay off the rest.
I'm getting ceramic self ligating up top and metal self ligating on the bottom a couple of months after the top row goes on.
I don't have health insurance either. It wasn't worth spending minimum $900 for the first year they don't cover for orthodontics, just to get a total of maximum $2000 in my lifetime for my braces. Sure it would have saved me a bit but I can't afford the initial outlay or the one year wait. I'd rather save and I still get 20% off anything I spend on medical expenses if the total is over $1500 a year.
The Australian dental care system isn't that crash hot. I remember in primary school we had the dentist come out once a year and treat us for free - fillings etc. Not sure if they still do that any more...and if you're past grade 10 everything comes out of your own pocket.
Hopefully our new government isnt just blowing air out their @sse and will move to put dentistry on Medicare.

Clickies on the "WWW" to see my braces story

I only have lower braces; won't need upper braces.
My record fee was 290.00 which I paid in November when I went for my consultation.
My orthodontic fee was 2850.00
Insurance is paying 1500.00 which is nice because I'm 48.
I also recived a 5% discount for paying my share upfront which came to a total of $1268.00. I have a flex medical account so I'm getting reimbursed for that next week. I live in the midwest--Kansas.
