what happens if not wearing aligners regularly?

For about a week or so I've only been wearing my aligners at night. How much damage am I doing? I'm hoping that I will be able to get on track by next week and just wear my current set for an extra week (three weeks instead of standard two).

Any opinions on this?

btw- know it's important to wear them all the time, just can't right now- having some difficult times personally and am just capable of living day to day right now (don't want to go into details here, let's just say i'm lucky that i'm even able to brush my teeth and put them in at night)

I only know my experience. I wore my last set for significantly less than 24 hours a day-probably 16 on average. I didn't experience any discomfort when I put the aligner back in. I think I was ok. Now if the trays were still tight fitting, I would have worn them longer.
I think you can tell what you need to do. Worst case, just wear them longer.
