This is my pre-braces pic (hopefully everyone here can see why I needed braces lol, some other people I have met say "your teeth look fine"....well they did before extraction gap one anyway!)

i have the same thing with my 2 front teeth. they point into eachother & on is further forward than the other (which makes it look bigger)
people are like 'are you sure you need braces?' and i just feel like saying 'no, i'm just forking out over $5000 out of my own pocket and putting myself through copious amounts of pain for the hell of it!'
good luck with your braces & have a swell time in them!
Luckily my family are being very supportive and honest, my husband and mum both agree that something is definitely off - otherwise I'd think I was going mad and seeing wonky teeth that weren't there!
I think the American attitude to teeth is great, everyone has such pride in straight healthy teeth in USA it seems.
Have you had braces yet Brittanube? Or still waiting like me (17 days to go from tomorrow - gulp)
i got my braces on last tuesday, and it's amazing how much progress i've seen already!
my friends saw them for the first time on friday night when we went out, they were a little shocked, but supportive, and they'll be used to them soon enough.
i know i am!
what was funny was a few weeks before i got them on, the episode of the simpsons where lisa got braces on, was on tv... so i just kept thinking of the 'Big Book of British Smiles!'
i laughed and laughed, and realised that 2 years of looking like heavy metal, is nothing in a whole life of a beautiful smile that you're confident of!
I agree - it seems a lot to go through now, but when you think of the pay-off of a lifetime smile, its worth it!
I think in Britain people have started to improve their teeth a lot, but it is still mainly teenagers. I got some varied opinions from people some of whom don't understand why an adult would do this. But maybe the adults who have been brave enough to take this step will start a trend!
Don't forget to post pics showing the improvement in your teeth Brittanube, wow - only since Tuesday! Now I can't wait to see what my braces do
Well, getting scary now. Braces are next Saturday morning
Had a phone call from my dentist this week, who informed me that he had left quite a big bit of root in after the final lower tooth extraction. He's not keen to do the removal of this himself due to the awkward position and so is referring me to an oral surgeon. I don't know yet if it can be on the NHS as I have been doing all my dental treatment and orthodontics privately. Hmm.
I was hoping he wouldn't have to remove the "tiny tip of a root" as he referred to it (before he saw the x-ray and discovered it was a whacking great huge bit of root!) But the orthodontist said he couldn't close the gap with the tooth fragment there
Ah well - onwards and downwards! Lol. I'll post more pics when I get the braces on!
it took ages to get mine out when my top teeth were removed... both the roots snapped off and they had to drill and yank and file.... over and over.... it was horrible, i had so many injections!
good luck with the oral surgeon. damn that dentist!
I know - these extractions are not always a walk in the park are they?! Ah well, with any luck it will be NHS, and not too bad with a proper oral surgeon doing it. At least it is one of the the lower teeth, I found the injections into the roof of my mouth SO weird when they did the upper ones. It just felt wrong!
How's it going now with the braces? Seeing more improvement?
there's really no pain anymore & there's been so much movement i'm so happy!
my sister was telling me yesterday that my top teeth are straightening out really well, i can't tell as much cause i stare at them everyday, but it's weird to think they've only been on three weeks today!
Good luck for today! x Don't forget to take some photos!
By the way, I am also in the UK and have my braces on the NHS too. My treatment is going great and I feel well looked after, my team are so great that I get really excited about adjustments! I am sure having braces will be the best thing you've ever done!
