Advice on lingual/extraction

#1 Post by WonkyVics »

Hi all,

seems like I've seen a thousand orthodontists/dentists and am still overwhelmed by the options.

I've had no bracework before, but desperately want to improve my smile. I was too stubborn at school to let them stick traintracks on me!

I've just been told I'm not suitable for Inman Aligners on my bottom teeth, due the the positioning of the bone. I could have them on the upper arch, but the orthodontist seemed to think I'd be better getting the whole lot done with linguals (as am a bit vain and still don't want visible work!)

I have quite a deep overbite, am quite crowded on my lower arch and am slightly crowded on my upper arch, with smaller-than-they-should-be teeth-next-to-front-teeth. Apologies for the lack of dental knowledge, I can never remember!

My concerns with Invisalign is their discolouration, that I'll probably lose a tray, and that I don't want to stop snacking all day long!

As for linguals, the last orthodontist reccommended extracting one lower front tooth to make room for moving the others around. Would this alter my profile? I've heard extractions can do that...

Would a combination of Inman on top teeth and linguals on lower work?

Can anyone offer me a opinion based on the photos here?:

*oops, photos from the inside not working, will put up tomorrow from work.

Thanks! Looking forward to hearing from you

Extracting one tooth from the front wont affect your appearance... atleast i dont think.

Only downside is, this will throw off your midline as your top and bottom wont be symetrical when your lacking one tooth.

I was presented with this very same option.

Yes, the midline would be messed up - but do you think this will really matter? I don't imagine it's often I show my upper and lower gnashers in my smile... it's more the look INTO my mouth to see my crooked lowers (Which I think look like tombstones in an overcrowded graveyard!), and my top ones need uncrossing.

Anyone with Inman/Invisalign experience who can tell me whether those treatments should be suitable?

Or inman on top, linguals on bottom?

thanks guys! x

You will look normal with linguals and an extraction doubt anyone will notice a thing. If you are really self concious your ortho can put a false tooth in (just temporary)
