Hi Arch Wired,

I have decided to join because I have been reading all of the stories posted here and I am in the process of getting braces. I figured I can get lot of help here and express myself with my journey.

My Story: I am 32 years old I will be 33 next month. I have wanted braces all my life to make my smile beautiful, I am always smiling. I had to have 4 wisdom teeth removed before I could get braces they were impacted, this was know since the age of 21. I was terrifed of that surgery. I have 2 kids, I said to myself if I could handle labor it shouldn't be so bad. Well I tricked myself into getting the wisdom teeth removed Aug 07. That was worst than labor, I got a infection due to one of the teeth being in the sinus cavity that lasted for 2 months of taking antibotics, Finally in November of 07 I was finished with my wisdom teeth.

In January I went to the Ortho for my consultation, I started the process.
I got 4 spacers upper teeth, which sucked, I couldn't chew on back teeth and real bad headaches. I really wanted to say forget braces. Next on January 18, 08.
I got this horrible appliance put in my mouth, Yes it is cemented in. It is called a Habbit appliance so I will not put my fingers in my mouth, I use to be a finger sucker and they want my open bite to close, before getting braces. My next appointment is March 18, 08 which will be 9 weeks of having the appliance. I can not wait to get this thing out. Eating with it is horrible and I am just learning to talk again with out sounding like I have a lisp tounge and a bunch of food stuffed in my mouth. I will post pictures of the appliance later.

Thanks For Listening

Hi LynB,

Like you, I am 32 and have wanted braces all my life. I finally got the top ones on yesterday and get the bottoms on in April. I also had all 4 wisdom pulled because of crowding and they were impacted...NOT FUN!

Your appliance doesnt' sound like fun(luckily I didn't need any spacers or appliances) but, just think, you're less then a month away from having it removed. Do you know when they're putting on your braces? Is it in March? Keep thinking of the end result and that'll get you through it

Keep us posted!! Good luck!!
Keep smilin'! :)

Thanks for your response and words of encourgement, Please tell me your experience with getting them on the top. Why are they doing bottom in April.

As far as my date to get them on, I will find out if the appliance is working and I am hopeing to get it removed at the 3/18/08 appointment and find out how or when they will be put on.

Hi LynB,

My ortho is doing the bottom later to let my top teeth spread out more and get the tooth that I have on the roof of my mouth to come out more. I will get a "guard thingy" (don't know the name) that'll prevent my top and bottom teeth to touch so I don't break any bottom brackets(I have an overbite). I think she mainly wanted me to get used to the tops before "overloading" me with the bite guard and bottoms.

Getting my braces on were a breeze! I had molds done first, then pics taken and then in about 45 minutes my tops were on!! They just clean your teeth with a solution(kinda sour vinegary tasting but if you just keep your tongue out of the way, you don't really taste it), then dried each tooth off, brushed some other stuff on(tasteless) and stuck on the bracket...VOILA! I'm only on day 2 but it's been pretty easy. I really have no pain(just a little sensitive) and I've been nervous to eat anything except stuff I don't have to chew but I've read that I should if my teeth don't really hurt so I started trying today. Feels weird to bite down but not too bad :)

I hope this helps and keep in touch(either here or you can find my story under this forum "Jenny101101's story(braces @ 32)). Hopefully the appliance will have done it's job and you'll be braced and on your way in no time :jump:
Keep smilin'! :)

Lyn B Welcome to the board. Just a reminder, to go check the newbies forum as you'll read up on tons of ortho things which you may or may not have known about . Also, resize your avatar is it is so large, it disfigures the board page and makes it difficult for others to read.

Hi Metalmouthmommy,

I read your story the other day and I really enjoyed the thing you said about your kids reactions. I can't wait to see my kids reaction. I have a 7year old and a 3year old. So you know what the reactions will probally be just by me telling you their ages.

Hi LynB and welcome to the family.

I know it must be HORRIBLE with the appliance in your mouth, but just think of the end result. No one said it was going to be easy, but atleast you dont have to do it alone. We are here to help ease your fears and answer any questions. This site has a vast wealth of knowledge and I am pretty sure that any question we can answer, and if we cant, we can direct you to the right source.

I have a 9 yr old and a set of 4yr old twins. They were amazed when I got braces. I was the talk of the house ( the best thing since sliced bread even).. I let them pick my lig colors and this month it was my oldest pick and he picked purple :). With small children, the response will always be hilarious :)

Keep us posted

Hi LynB ~

I'm a fellow member of the "32 & In Braces Club." 8) On 3/3 my bottoms will be braced & I'll receive a bite plate so I don't bite my bottom brackets off. In 3 to 4 months, my uppers will be braced.

Your appliance does NOT sound like fun!

I look forward to following your journey!
