Opinions on removing my archwire

#1 Post by zero »

Hi everyone,

I've been MIA lately because I've been planning my wedding in may, I talked to my orthro asst. about it and she suggested I have my archwire removed for the wedding and then put back in..I'm on the fence about it on one hand I wont have to worry about my ligs staining (I'm having the wedding in another state so I cant get them changed the day before) and for a little while I can floss normally again (YAY) but on the other hand I am worried about being with other my archwire and if it will delay treatment...or cause my teeth to move back..plus I dont want to send the message that I am ashamed about being braced..
My ortho is going to leave it up to me but he wants me to decide by my next appt...So I figured I would ask you guys, have any of you ever had your archwired removed for an event?
Thanks for any help :)

Hello zero!
You must be getting so excited about your big day! Many congratulations!

Regarding the removal of archwire - I was without mine for an entire week! (My ortho had to take my top molar bands off and send them to the lab to be welded to a quad helix.)
No adverse effects I have to say. It was wonderful as I could do "normal" flossing! I was only four months into treatment, but everything stayed put, so I'm sure you'll be fine for just one day.
Are you having the brackets taken off too? Might be an idea, as you'll get a mini clean when the glue gets ground off...

Thanks cosmicgirl! I am really excited :)

They aren't going to remove the brackets, I have ice (clear) on top and bottom and honestly with out the archwire they are pretty invisible...

oh to floss normally...what a wonderful dream!!

Thanks for your imput I just wanted to see if anyone else had their wire off for any amount of time..

Assuming pictures/portraits are going to be taken, you will want to smile in them. Are the brackets visible enough without the archwire in them to be noticeable in the pictures? Or will you be smiling with your mouth closed in all your pictures?

I am planning on smiling with my mouth open, the brackets are the invisible ice kind so with out the archwire unless you are standing right on top of me you don't really notice the braces...

Thanks for the advice bracedagain...I thought I might have a tongue thrust problem before I was braced..but I asked my orthro and he made me drink water while smiling (I thought he was nuts) and the water stayed in my mouth ..which means I don't thrust..my open bite was caused by my nail biting which I broke myself outta that habit once I learned that ..My ortho doesn't carry the white wire hehe I asked

I was just worried I would get the wire off and my teeth would go back to how they were...I think I had a nightmare about that once
