a lot of people end up with jaw surgery. May I ask why in your case you had to have it?

I know one things for sure. Since elastics my jaw won't stop cracking and clicking! I thought braces was supposed to help the TMJ not make it worse.

And like I said the first set of elastics was almost a breeze. But I guess I gotta give this one a few more days to feel more comfortable with them.

I had to have surgery as my lower jaw was too far back compared to my upper jaw. (as meryaten said a skeletol issue)

The ortho treatment straightened my teeth, but couldnt change the bones in my jaw, so they operated to bring my lower jaw forward to align with my upper jaw.

Hope the elastics are getting easier :D

okay thanks for explaining. I was told that my bite will most likely not be 100% but I was fine wtih that. My main goal is straighter teeth and I've certainly reached that!

Hmm. In my second month of braces I had to wear elastics from my top inside molar band to the outside molar band on both sides for several months. But after month 1 I only had to wear them at night. But now I've got elastics going from the upper outside molar band to the bottom eye tooth on each side and elastics from top eye tooth to bottom eye tooth. So the positions are completely different.

^ lol okay!!

anyways it's been a week and finally my mouth has calmed down significantly. I am being a bit bad with the front elastics. I take them out a few times a day, not because they hurt but bc if I'm out in public or eating I don't want them in! It's an image thing. I know I know!! But other then that already my bite is so different and my top teeth touch my bottom teeth when I smile which is I guess what was supposed to happen *shrugs*

okay so it's going much better with them and I'm keeping them in longer and longer each day.

I am sure in the end their going to do whatever it is they need to do but damn my bite feels really off now. And my front teeth are slowly overlapping my bottom teeth now? I am wondering when your teeth are finally in position how are they supposed to lay?

Like are they supposed to meet. Are the tops supposed to slightly lay over the bottom (not like drastically like an overjet)....I am getting a little discouraged bc when I talk now it's like my top teeth and my bottom clang together slightly! Is this okay? I assume so since the ortho made me wear the bands this way?

Does anyone have a picture of how a perfect smile (or almost perfect smile) should look like? I just need to know how these teeth are supposed to line up properly!

thank u. Yes that's exactly what I'm looking for!! Just to see what a
"perfect" bite should look like. And I think that gave me some reassurance. Thanks!

My ortho said I must wear them ALL THE TIME... even when eating!! He told me that removing them for just TWENTY MINUTES will cause my teeth to stop moving. The constant starting and stopping of teeth is unhealthy and unproductive (as per him). Don't take them off for 2 hours at a time - this "break" will just prolog the misery. Leave them in and deal with it! :)

I don't mean to be harsh - but you HAVE to do it. :-)

I wear elastics all the time. It is quite easy for me, because during the day I have an elastic only on my right side. I can eat easily etc. During the night I have them on both sides. I have class II elastics, and they are trying to fix my midline and overjet/bite.

I havent got too much pain from elastics. It is just the archwire, which is asseemingly pushing my lower laterals down. They are the only teeth that are sore.

you weren't harsh. I know I need to be more consisitant but with the elastics I have when they're all in I can't open my mouth. It's like it's wired shut. So it's harder then u think. I can't even drink unless it's from a straw! But I'm doing better. I leave them in most of the time. I only take the fronts out when I need to eat then put them back in and I don't even feel them anymore except when I wake up in the morning and my mouth is all stiff so I have to take them out to brush and stretch my jaw! But overall the initial PAIN is gone. The annoyance of having them is just left over
