OMG! That sounds so nice! We never went on a honeymoon after our wedding, but we took a couple little honeymoons to disneyland, and a hotsprings spa. My husband didnt mean to make me feel bad, but the other day he made a comment that if I didnt have this surgery, we could have planned a vacation to somewhere tropical.... but maybe we could work toward it afterward (especially after all this not being able to eat, Ill finally be able to wear a swim suit!)!!!

PS- I have several online businesses that I work on with my husband. I am working my rear end off trying to double my income, and give myself something to do when I take that month off from work. Any ideas on the best tropical place to go (I need motivation!)? We have thought about Jamaica, Caribbean, something remote and peaceful (we could use it after the crazy year and a half we have been through after we got married- moved 4 times, moved from Ca to Or, braces, trying to get this surgery done, etc etc etc). Also, I didnt know Egypt has snorkeling? Is that on the Mediterranean?

My husband and I were just in Egypt for two weeks in February, we went to Cairo, Luxor, Sharm el Sheikh on the Red Sea, and Petra. It was a WONDERFUL trip, so much in fact that we already want to go back and spend a week just on the Red Sea.

Regarding braces and snorkeling ... it won't be a problem at all for you. In anticipation of taking the trip to one of the premier diving destinations of the world, my husband and I got certified in Scuba. In fact, the day I got my braces put on last November, I had my first scuba class. I literally went from the ortho to my class, had one hour of classroom instruction and off to the pool where we put our skills to test. What I did notice was that I tend to clamp down more on the regulator (mouthpiece) with the braces on, but it posed no problem or additional pain. My husband also has braces, but he's a bit more of a veteran than I, he's had them on since last June. Ah, what a cute couple we make ... we look like a couple of teenagers in high school :) Even though I am 33 and he is 28. I am the lucky one that gets to have surgery though. Or I guess he is the lucky one, he gets to have a new and improved wife

Definately take advantage of the snorkeling, it is truley amazing. Enjoy your trip!

There are so many awesome places to go, but if you are looking for something remote and peaceful, and not too far of a plane ride (like Fiji or something), I would highly recommend Tabacón resort in Costa Rica. That is one of the most beautiful remote tropical paridise I have ever been to.

It is at the foot of the Arenal volcano, and the resort is set among cascading hot spring water falls and pools. It is truley a paradise. With all the beautiful flora and fauna of the region, you can't go wrong. There are a lot of things to do there as well, besides soak all day in the natural hot springs. You can visit the arenal volcano which is active and usually spewing some kind of hot lava substance into the air. You can do the zip lines for an exhilerating tour of the canapy. You can do the jungle tour which takes you on a walk through the forest where you will see various species of frogs, snakes, birds, even monkeys.

I have been there twice, unfortunately only a couple days each time ... but will definately return as it is one of the most incredible places I have been, and I have been to over 30 countries.

For those who wanted to know about Egypt and its diving, its one of the best places in the world to see fish .. so on and has unspoiled coral just like you would see in the maldives.

Egypt is on the red sea part of Africa very hot !

These 3 males - the light purple ones - should be having a ball with all the females. This is a common sight at 7 metres in Hurghada, Sharm el Sheikh and Safaga.

Common, but only found in the Red Sea.

Yes! I definately recommend going to Luxor, at least once anyway. We had been to the Cairo museum before Luxor, so that gave us a historical basis for much of what we would see there. All of the things from King Tut's tomb are in the Cairo museum, really a spectacular sight. It makes seeing his tomb more special.

When we were in Luxor, our second night there Egypt won the African cup against Cameroon, so you can imagine how crazy the town was! We watched the game with our tour guide, Ahmed, who truley became a good friend to us. He took us to a local bar, they did not serve alchohol there but we sure enjoyed smoking shisha! I am not a smoker, but since it is filtered through water it is very smooth ... and the various flavors such as apple and mango ... we had to buy a hookah when we got back! Only for special occasions of course ... I am not having all of this work done in my mouth only to mess it up by becoming a smoker

One thing I would absolutely do is take a morning hot air balloon ride over luxor. You do this at sunrise, around 5 a.m. Other must sees are the valley of the kings (this is where King Tut's tomb is, but also many others). We were going to see the valley of the queens as well, but decided to do the valley of the workers instead to pay tribute to all of those people who built these amazing structures!! You must also do a falucca ride on the Nile river ... we did ours to Banana Island ... very neat indeed. We saw the temple of Karnac in the evening ... it was very neat but possibly a bit too long towards the end as we were all very sleepy and not up for a long monalogue during the light show.

A couple of days in luxor will do, if you are willing to pack as much as you can into those 2 days. We made our reservations with a local tour agency called Jollies, it is next to the Winter Palace on the main road. They have very competitive offerings and are very knowlegeable, and they came very highly recommended from various reviews I had read.

Sharm el Sheikh in June ... I'm jealous ... I just got back but am ready to go again!!

Ahem, the best tropical diving is in the south Pacific, particularly Oz (Great Barrier Reef or, better still, the Coral Sea - this is liveaboard stuff), Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and Fiji. Remote, uncrowded, unspoilt. One of my fave spots is Indonesia, where I'll be in May - 10 days on a liveaboard off Kalimantan (Borneo). It's a hard life I lead.

Hi Kerry,

You lucky girl!

I've snorkelled in Taba Heights before and the fish and coral are amazing!

I was on holiday last week and snorkelled for the first time with my braces on - it is fine, you won't have any problems. The only thing is that you are aware that the brackets sort of dig in to the mouthpiece a little bit, but it doesn't stop you from doing it at all - just feels a bit different.

Have a great time,

Happysmiler

Hey Kerry,
I know lots of people have replied all ready but I just wanted to input. The same month I got braces I went scuba diving (is that the same/similar to snorklling) in Bulgaria and I didn't find the braces to be a problem at all. It was a fantastic experience, nothing like i've seen/done before, I even held a little seahorse in my hand - I never realised how tiny they are!
Hope you have fun (you will) :D I'm so jealous now! Ive always wanted to go again but havn't had the opportunity!
Feel free to take a look at my SurgeryBlog
