About lisp

I was thinking of getting lingual braces, but i am kind of concerned about the whole lisping thing. If i get top linguals-bottong normal braces, will i have a problem with speaking? I was thinking it would be way better since the tongue touches the bottom teeth when pronouncing "s".

I have that combination. I haven't had speech problems. I rang work and my Mum the same day I had both fitted, neither noticed or remembered to ask how I got on, not sure whether to be annoyed that they forgot or pleased I didn't sound different. Nobody has noticed I have a brace on top unless I have told them. My orthodontist quotes speech difficulties with Incognito/ IBrace brand as 5-10% of people. Of those who have posted speech difficulties on the forum, it seems to have resolved within a week or two.

3 weeks in to a lingual upper brace and the lisp is almost gone. I was beginning to worry as I couldnt hold a conversation at work and be taken seriously.

At last after looking for alternative words not involving 'th' or 'ss' I realised today that I was talking normaly. Amazing how you adapt!

yes you will most definatley have problems with speaking but after a few weeks you will be over it.. its unlikely you will sound totally normal while the linguals are there but you will get to a point where it doesnt bother you anymore..
i notice it mostly when i have been speaking a lot, or when i have been drinking or eating to much chocolate!!!

i was a mess the first few weeks and considered having them removed i just couldnt handle it. but after a while i realised what everyone was talking about when they said it will get better.. it did and now i am totally happy with them......

so yes you will lisp, there is no way out of it!! but it will get better fast and be worth it!!!

I echo what Sonja has said, you will never speak totally normal, but there's a huge difference to how you will speak when you first get them to how you will speak after a day, a week, and a month. And like Sonja says, you will just not care after a while.

I am on day 2 with Lingualcare braces on just the 6 upper front teeth. I have no speech issues at all.

I echo what many people here have said. I had a TERRIBLE lisp to begin with but I adapted with time. I've had them for 18 months now and still lisp a little. I hear it but other people say they can't...until I've had a few drinks.
