New user + a few questions!

#1 Post by parkersg »

Hey everyone!

i've never posted on this forum before but i've been hanging around in stealth mode for the last year trying to read up on invisalign. So I'm happy to report that yesterday I got them!

no real problems so far except for taking them out, the attatchments (7, 4 on top and 3 on bottom) seem to be causing a real problem, i was just wondering if when taking the trays out if you're meant to pull out and then down or just down?

also i was just wondering if anyone can tell me what the writing on the little packets the trays come in means, for example it says IPR and then:

upper: 1.3-1.2 (0.3mm)

not that i NEED to know, but just curious!

thanks a mil guys!

I can only say what works best for me, and that was after some trial and error attempts, but I never really had a huge problem getting them off. I have found that pulling slightly out on the edge to the back, first on the side that has the fewest attachments (or least resistence), then up (or down-depending on if it is the uppper or lower), lifting up and working around to the center front, then using my opposite hand on the other side to pop that off. Sounds more complicated than it is, but it likely is going to be different for everyone. The aligners can torque a bit, and should not break. It definitely becomes easier as time goes on!.

I don't know what the numbers mean, but IPR in the ortho world is interproximal reduction, or reducing the width of the tooth by filing off a bit of enamel between the teeth. My ortho gave me a little booklet about it, but so far I have not been told that I actually need that done.

Congratulations on starting your treatment!

I think the IPR # on the package is stating how much they will have to shave off of your teeth. It sounds worse than it probably is. There are a lot of people that have had to have it done but I can't testify to that as I have not.

I have 4 attachments on the top and 3 on the bottom. I don't pull straight down. I use a plastic hook and that pulls the tray outward a little, then down. See if you can get a hook from the ortho/dentist and try that if you have a hard time pulling them off.
