Well this is from the beginning and I am going to add to this as things progress
December 5th, 2007 top braces applied
Well here I am, the evening of day 1. I was half braced today! I got my top ceramics, metal on back teeth. The appointment went really well. He answered all of my questions I threw at him. I left the office thinking "Wow that was easy, a little TOO easy". Well the twist to this is that I am feeling pressure now, I'm sure like everyone else does on day 1 and after adjustments feel. But I'm just going to believe that this is because my teeth are forming to the archwire like they should. So anyway I thought I'd start this thread so I could post pics as I have them.
I am so very very pleased with my front ceramics. Hardly anyone at work even noticed them. They had to basically get right up in my face and see if they were for real! And not sure if this is news to anyone or not but the assistant said instead of using white or clear ligs that will stain, they use "Pearl" colored ligs on ceramics because it doesn't stain So that's what I have. They look kind of "off white" on the table but disappear when on the brackets! If you're thinking about ceramics ask about Pearl colored ligs. She said not all offices order them but they have the option to order them so it might be worth asking if you have problems staining. Of course this is day one so I'll keep ya posted if what she's told me is true.
Day 2:
Not much of an update, still pretty sore. Just feeling pressure. A little difficult to eat but they are right, the more you chew the easier it gets. I'm hoping in the next week I won't notice them as much. And by Christmas, be able to eat anything I want within reason.
Here is my first picture from Day 1 in uppers. I'll post more as I get my adjustments which right now is scheduled in 8 weeks Then I'll get my lowers shortly after that...

Hi!
I know this is an old post, but looking at your teeth picture, i think your teeth are very similar to mine (please see: viewtopic.php?t=26391).
How is your evolution going? Can you please post recent pictures, i would really like to see what kind of changes i can expect.
Thank you!

Update with many pics!!
Wow it's been a while since I've posted. A lot has happened and life has been busy. I have been keeping up with taking photo's though. I need to take some this month. Hasn't been a drastic change since last month but there was some movement.
I was told at my last adjustment that one of 2 things needed to happen. I would either need jaw surgery or I'd need 2 teeth on the bottom pulled. For some reason I guess he couldn't tell that before my braces went on (not to happy to get this surprise at this stage). Well I thought the chances of me letting someone break my jaw and have permanent screws in my jaw wasn't for me. I do want to correct my bite but my main reason for getting braces is cosmetic. I have no jaw pain or anything related to jaw pain or discomfort.
I went to the jaw surgeon just for a "free" consultation and had a horrible experience. It's a long story but let's just say it wasn't "free" even though my ortho said it was. Got there and asked repeatedly if it was free and just a consultation and never got a straight answer. Only after 5 minutes of talking to the dr., many many pictures and x-rays and being there a total of 2 1/2 hours, the Dr. finally came in the room and we were able to drag it out of him that it was in fact NOT free. Luckily I was only charged my co-pay and I'm assuming they will bill my insurance the fat bill. I just hope they pay it I surly cannot afford something like that. And all that for something that I wasn't going to get in the first place.
What I learned and my advice...if it's a free consultation do NOT sign anything and they shouldn't need your insurance info until you have chosen to do the procedure.
Needless to say I'll be losing 2 teeth
Here is my progress pics:
1st set taken 12-05-08 right before top was applied. Have an open bite.
2nd set taken 4-2-08 bottoms applied, tops on a few months
3rd set taken 5-10-08 bottoms trying to straighten out
4th set taken 6-7-08 bottoms shaping up nicely except for that one stubborn front tooth.
Now I have the beginning of an underbite but hopefully with the 2 teeth gone they'll be plenty of room for them to move back.

Wow, lookin good HotWired! I'm sorry to hear about your crazy experience with the surgeon - that would freak me out too. Do you have a date for your extractions?

No not yet but I'm hoping soon. My next appt is on the 21st so I'm hoping we'll at least get something scheduled that day. My underbite is getting worse and my brackets on the bottom are starting to rub against my bottom lip
I'm just hopeful that once I get them extracted everything will move into place.

Hey there
Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience with that "free" consult. Ugh what a pain to find that out only after you had asked several times, seems sort of deceptive to operate that way. I just wanted to say I think your teeth are looking pretty great already they are really lining up nicely.
Hopefully soon you will find out about those extractions. I know what you mean about the brackets rubbing against the inside of your lip. I have developed this huge canker sore that is not my friend right now. Making everything pretty painful but getting through..
Let us know how your appt on the 21st goes
