Just thought I'd introduce myself, I'm joining the bracket club!! I'm excited to have everyones input and would love to share my progress!! For starters, my name is Brandy and I'm a 22 year old pastry chef from Chicago. Should be fun avoiding sweets with my braces on, especially when we taste test everything . I've always wanted that perfect smile, but being raised by a single parent doesn't exactly have that in store for ya. I went in for my consultation May 21st, and let me tell you I was so freakin nervous. So the ortho looked at my teeth and noticed the fang that I absolutely despise b/c it has a mind of its own. Because the fang is so far out it throws off the gumline for the tooth next to it, which is another thing that drives me nuts. Every picture shows more gum on one side . Sooo I will be braced upper and lower to fix some crowding and some unaligned teeth.
Xrays came out fine, they took some molds, and lots of pictures. The next time I seem him, he is gonna have a computer simulation of what he would like my teeth to be like in the end, I didn't even know they could do that. I'm super excited for that . And throughout the whole treatment every so many months he will take pictures and we will look at them together and point out things he wants to change as well as anything I notice. He seems very very good (keeping my fingers crossed).
June 10th I'll be having what he called tooth contouring to add some much needed space. They tried adding spacers but they just kept popping off. He will be taking some more molds for a new procedure they do to add the brackets all at once instead of one at a time. That sounds pretty exciting . So far my sentence is 14 months, but who trusts that, I'm willing to go as long as it takes. About 8 months in I will wear a triangle elastic configuration to maintain my bite, I lucked out I have a nice normal bite. Sooooo the grand total is $4100, not too bad. I'm not sure of the exact brace date yet, I didn't understand if they were putting them on June 10th or sometime after. I'll keep everyone posted. And now for the pictures, ENJOY........

Just a little update, I went in for the second consult, where he broke everything down and showed me animated pictures and stuff of what he hopes to acheive. We discussed the IPR again, still not sure when that will take place, that might happen on the actual brace date, not too sure. We also talked about a procedure that will be performed later on in the treatment before the braces are removed. I'm not exactly sure what it is, he said we'll discuss it more when we get that far. It's where they remove like the fiber, which is almost like a shock for a car only its for your teeth. Since my fang is placed sort of in a bad position, they numb the area and remove that fiber from the tooth, b/c i guess that fiber can cause the tooth to go back to the same position. So they remove it and they use a splint behind the tooth for 6-8months, until the fiber regenerates, but this time in the proper position. That sort of scares me, I don't want my tooth to be messed up. I'm a little nervous about that, so i guess i'll worry about that down the road. But on to the good news, WE HAVE A BRACE DATE!! I will be in braces JUNE 17th!! I'm excited and nervous at the same time. Need some encouragement !! Thanks to those who have read my story and gave nice input already!!

Yay- only a week to go! It's perfectly normal to have niggly doubts now that you have a date. Before, you knew that you were gonna get braces, now you KNOW you're gonna get them!
I still had doubts about whether I would go through with it whilst driving to get them fitted. Don't forget you're doing this for a reason and it'll definitely be worth it all in the end
Hi Sweet, thanks for stopping by my thread! How'd your contouring go today? My appointment went well - I added an update and pics That's so exciting that your brace day is just a week away, and a day before mine! I'll be thinking of you on Tuesday!
~Nikki~
23 year old brace face and proud of it!
My story is well under way! Follow along in my thread.
Thanks for stopping by!! No contouring yet, i think that is gonna happen the day i actually get the braces, I'm super nervous i can't imagine someone shaving away at my teeth. Thanks I'll def. have you in mind next wednesday as well!!
Hi, we share the same brace day! I got mine on June 17th also. I'd love to hear an update of how the whole thing went for you, how you've been feeling, etc.
I got ceramic uppers and lowers, no molar bands but lots of hooks for future rubber bands. My treatment time is supposed to be about 18 months.
Sorry it took so long to update. So let me tell you i was soooooo nervous, but i took one last look at my teeth and said bye bye!! I got out of the car and walked in, and got my braces!! It wasn't bad at all they used some new technique called quick align where they put them on in sections instead of one at a time. Didn't take too long. I learned that two of my molars are twisted so bad they couldn't put the ligs on all the way! i couldn't believe it i never noticed it before. So he left some glue on two of molars, why i don't know but it feels like when i bite down i can't fully close my mouth and when i eat it hurts cause its like cement lol, not fun. I went with pink ligs this time and i'm pleased lol, they are too cute. Overall the pain hasn't been as bad as the first few days and the sides of my cheeks really took a beating. But it is slowly getting better. The next appointment is in July, can't wait to hopefully see a lil bit of progress!! Now for the pictures!!
