BRACE DAY!!

#1 Post by fldhkybnva »

AHHH....today is brace day! I am getting uppers and lowers and a quadhelix. The braces don't scare me so much besides the fact that I think they will make me very self-consciousness and ruin my love food and eating, but the quadhelix frightens me. I barely got any sleep last night and am excited, but i think I'm more terrified at this point. I hope that everything goes well. This forum is amazing. Over the past 3 months, I have literally been obsessed and learned so much about the process.

Good luck fldhkybnva with starting your journey today! Make sure that you take an OTC pain reliever 30 minutes before your appointment and stay well hydrated!

Keep us posted!

Ah, what a relief! The whole process was not as bad as I thought it would be. At the last moment I chose to get ceramic uppers and I think I have the SmartClip brackets. Does anyone know if these are better or worse than regular braces that require ligatures? I also had metal lowers and a quad helix installed. I have managed to eat both lunch and dinner so far, but I am a bit anxious in anticipation of the pain that I hear starts tomorrow. Also, I have a "triangle" (that's what the ortho referred to it as--it spans from upper #3 to lower #3 and #4) elastic arrangement on the right side which is kind of annoying. I really hope I don't begin to dread this tomorrow when the pain and shredded tongue kicks in.

This is probably irrational. But I think my anxiety about the whole process has me a bit worried. I have had no pain since brace day, perhaps some slight sensitivity on certain teeth, but nothing that has restricted eating or required pain medicine. Also, the quadhelix has not "thrashed" my tongue as many others have experienced nor have I had any sores from the brackets and no pain from the elastic that I wear 24/7 (except eating and brushing/flossing). I just worry that something wasn't done right. Any reassurance?

sorry...i guess im obsessed, but i have another question. ive noticed that one of my ligatures is only on three of the prongs around the brackets. the tooth is slightly rotated so perhaps that is why. i was just wondering if this is something that i should call the ortho about. thanks.
