My Story!!! Pallet expanders now, braces in 11 days!!!

#1 Post by meggers06 »

Well my mouth has been held hostage by upper and lower pallet expanders for the past 5 months! I can not say I have enjoyed them one bit, but I can say that I am now used to the new way of talking and the crazy tongue techniques of getting all the food out!

I am 23 yrs old and my teeth have always been fine, just a tad crocked on the bottom. When I moved and started going to a new dentist, I inquired info about invisiline... but he informed me I have a crossbite and might need braces. 23 yr old w/braces??? Why didn't my old dentist ever mention this w/in I was like 12?!?! After seeing an orthodontist, I got myself into more than I thought I would...

Not knowing the company I was working for was going to be announcing their relocation up north, I scheduled my appt not thinking I would have to worry about impressing others. Well w/my luck, the date they were placed in my mouth was the same week I was interviewing for jobs. Talk about a rough interview.... I had to sell myself to these companies w/a HUGE lisp, a swollen tongue, and cut cheeks!!! Luck was on my side though... I received an offer for all 3 companies!!! (Maybe they just felt bad for me??) If I could get through those interviews w/these things, I could get through anything...

Well after 5 months of expanders and a new job... I am down to 11 days before I get my braces put on (clear on top). I believe I will have to keep the expanders in for about a month after I get the braces. I am sooooo ready to be done w/these expanders and talk NORMALLY again (the people at my new company have no idea how I really talk!!)

So please tell me that if I could deal w/these expanders, braces will be a breeze??!?!

I am excited for my new smile... :D

Good luck with your braces. Good for you for sticking with it through everything. Sounds like we will be getting braces about the same time. Mine go on the 31st of this month. Good luck in your journey.

I have not had an expander, so I can't compare. But braces really aren't that bad. They are annoying for a couple of days when you first get them, and they take some getting used to, but after a while they just become your new normal.

What kind of braces will you be getting?

Pallet Expanders

Dude, it's now the end of September & I hope your experience with your pallet expander is going well.

I am 37, yes 37, & just had an expander installed today. Next month I am schedule for surgery to open up the suture on the top of my mought, so my upper pallet can expand.

Please give me reassurance that I am not crazy for doing this so late SPAM SPAM SPAMMING.

I never had an expander but I too got a job after being interviewed wearing braces. I guess ones skills are more important than your bite. At least you show that you are improving that part too.

I can reassure you that you're not crazy doing this at the "old" age of 37. I was 38 when i started this journey and I haven't regretted it once. Well, maybe the first week as I had some doubt about it but that went by very quickly.
Hang in there. Sometimes it gets worse before it gets better but in the end it will be worth it.
