Would I be able to have invisalign?

#1 Post by xTc »

Hi :D I used to wear braces when I was 15, but since then my tetth have shifted. My lower teeth are pretty crooked, the first 3 are out of alignment with each other (They all straight as in facing the same way, but need bringing inline with each other), the 4th tooth is a slightly facing inward.. Can invisalign usually correct stuff like this?

My uppers are OK I think, the front two - one of them is slightly overlapping the the other and sits at a slightly crooked angle, and the other teeth are all well spaced they could just do with being a bit straight.

Any help appreciated, cheers

It sounds like you don't have any major problems to fix, so then you would be the perfect candidate for Invisalign. Of course, only a dentist or orthodontist that does Invisalign can tell you for sure. You should make an appointment with one or more doctors and ask them.

I didn't think my teeth were that bad, but it turned out they were more crooked than I thought. So it's hard to tell on your own exactly how difficult your case will be. I still got Invisalign. :D

go see a dentist/ortho...

its not rocket science.

i'd put a lot more trust in a doctors opinion over a forum.
started treatment 6 May 2008.
All up 34 Upper & 20 Lower.
Loving the invisalign, a great choice for correcting my teeth.

Cost of asking a forum for a rough guide - £0

Cost of an appointment with an ortho - £100

Lol, yeah I think Im gonna book myself in for an appointment.. I'm a little worried about how obvious it is you're wearing invisalign though.. some pictures I've seen aren't very encouraging

Most people are really just too wrapped up in themselves, their own problems, the kids' snuffles, how to pay the rent/mortgage, and any number of other concerns to notice or care about someone else having braces ;)
I know but with braces, everyone knows what they are.. but invisalign, people are always gonna be like "wtf have you got in your mouth" when they notice :(

Only one person noticed I was wearing Invisalign during 9 months of treatment. I wouldnt have cared if people did notice cause I felt like I was doing something to improve myself. I guess I dont understand the shame in that. :?

I know I'm just really self-conscious about it..

You think I should go ahead and get em? Only 1 person in 9 months? Wow... even when you were stood close to people they didn't notice?

Only you can decide whether to get them or not. The only person who noticed was my mom's best friend and that was when I first had them. I was yakking and yakking to her and I wasnt quite used to talking in them yet LOL. I'm extremely happy I did it, Ive always wanted to do it. It was worth all the inconviences and $$$$$. When I look in the mirror I still cant believe these are my teeth!

Im with you Lilypad - I officaly finished today and I cant stop smiling at myself ( yeah Im a dork - I know  ). When I look back I cant believe how much they changed. I'm gonna post pics soon.

Back on topic -

I had an extreme case and some people may argue that my teeth are prefect but im happy and thats what counts. I had a dentist do mine but as great as they came out I think i got lucky - i didnt go for 2nd and 3rd opinions and from what ive learned over the years (3+) from this forum and other sources I would say definately seek multiple opinions.

Best of Luck to you - its so worth it!

Get at least 2 opinions from orthodontists. It is amazing how different the approaches can be. Also, no one really notices, and if they do, so what. I told my hairdresser I was getting them, and I remind her after each hair appointment is finished, and she swears she didn't notice them (she always forgets from one month to the next). Also, my husband swears he doesn't notice a thing. I have told a few people, and they were surprised that they didn't notice it on their own. So I have to come to the conclusion that the aligners are not very obvious.
Good luck!

No one has noticed mine in 9 months also. I think one guy may have noticed something but didn't say anything. The only people that know are the ones I told. And one guy I told about them still couldn't see them when I opened my mouth to show him! You really can't see them unless it is a well lit place and you are right next to someone. A lot of people don't have great eyesight either.

I should really qualify the above by saying that when I smile my gums don't show, so you can't see the edge of the aligners. If someone has a really big smile and the lips are above or below the teeth, then maybe the edge of the aligners would be visible. That is the part that is most visible.
