hey! why is my gap getting bigger!? =s

#1 Post by mssweeteypie »

I've had my braces on for over 3 months..and a gap between my two central teeth on the bottom is getting bigger. I've recently gotten a powerchain on the bottom row..and it's STILL getting slightly bigger.

What on earth is going on???? my teeth aren't even that crooked.

Hello mssweeteypie, I can't really answer your question but I though I'd write to say the same thing is happening to me. I have had braces for just 4 months. I never had any gaps before and then one morning I woke and I had two. I was a little alarmed, like you, but after reading around on here it seems that it does happen. I figured that everything is moving and not always in the direction that seems logical. I decided to have faith in my orthodontist and just wait and see until my next adjustment. After all, it's a long time until our teeth will be in their "final' position.

I'm sure if you browse around on here some more, you'll find more people who have had the same experience. And hopefully someone with more understanding will explain in a little more detail. Call your ortho if you don't find what you need here.

It's scary when things seem to get worse before they get better isn't it! Good luck,

Don't worry about it. Right now, your Arch is being formed and teeth aligned.
Spaces can open up, but they will be closed later.

I know its very common for gaps to form when the arch is being fixed and all. But I thought powerchains were meant to close gaps.

I've had a gap between my bottom central incisor and lateral incisor for about the past 9 months now....Why?? My ortho said he's trying to rotate my central incisor. I don't know why because in my opinion it was perfect and now it's slanted at the side, hasn't moved in months and there's this space..which he said is to help rotate the tooth..

So maybe you ortho is trying to tweak something...just an idea  ...

Oh it's common for things to get worse as teeth move around. Don't worry, it WILL get better.

That happened to me too

Don't worry, it'll be okay. I had that happen to me too. In fact, at one point after a few months I developed a gap between my two front teeth, never had one before!

The teeth can move around in crazy ways as they find space for others and align. They will straighten out and tighten up in due time. If you're overly concerned you can call your Ortho, but I'm certain that it's perfectly okay. They will all line up properly in time. I found that the crazy movements were in the first six months, then things were more gradual. Give it a few more months and I think you'll love the improvements you see!

I have a weird gap between my thrid and fourth incisor. Not in the middle (as "normal" people have it, but like that. It happened after my canine started moving to its place. It pulled the near incisor with it too. It's OK though (even if I kinda dislike the looks). My incisors will move to that direction too, so it's all part of the plan. Don't worry, the FINAL RESULT is what counts ;)

But what I am trying to say is..that I have a powerchain on my lower and upper teeth. the gap on my lower teeth is getting larger..i didn't think it was possible since I have a powerchain on.
