I was told that I would only need braces for 24 months. Well due to a stubborn overbite I will have been in braces for 3 years. My deband date is Aug. 6th. My teeth aren't perfect, but at this time I am ready to be free. My friend was told 24 months and she only needed 9 months and her teeth were worse than mine. It just depends on the bite and overall structure of your teeth....Good Luck...The journey is worth it.
I could be totally wrong but, from what I have read on this site and others, and from what I have been told, I feel like every adult is given an estimate of about 20-24 months (give or take a month or two). I really am not sure they can tell until you are well under way with your process. 1 day is probably too long but just keep the ultimate goal in mind and trust them!! But, like someone else mentioned, def get some other consults before deciding who to go with. It will probably put your mind at ease and not 2nd guess what you are being told. I saw 5 different orthodontists and they all told me the exact same thing!
I had 8 months in Damon braces (lateral teeth) and am scheduled for 13 months on upper teeth/18 months lower teeth in Invisalign. 2 years and a half approx., but I am sure the results will be amazing. I am already very pleased with how the treatment is going

Yeah, I agree. Never set yourself up to get your braces taken off when they tell you. Your teeth will determine that date for you.
I remember 10 years ago when I had braces the first time, I was suppose to have them off by the time I graduated HS (who wants to go to college with braces??), yeah...didn't happen! I had them on for another 4 months.
They were off shortly AFTER i started college. Go figure!
I guess after having braces a second time, im so used to it to where having them on don't really bother me all that much. They are like a part of me now, so if the ortho told me I had to wear them for 5 years, I would probably ask why, but it wouldnt bother me I dont think...

Don't worry. They may come off sooner ..who knows.
The first time I saw my Ortho. he told me I would have to wear braces 2.5 years, i'll be getting them off sometime around October or November which is almost half a year before the time he told me.
Just remember its an ESTIMATE not fact & things do change.

I have damon braces, and was told that if extractions are needed, then I'm going to be in braces for 24 months, but if there's no extractions then it's only going to be for 12 months. I'm really hoping it's the latter, and not the former, even though it seems too good to be true.
The average time for having braces (well for damons anyway) is apparently 22 months.

I was told 18-22 months. Fortunately my ortho is thrilled with how well my rotated tooth has turned around. Now we're moving it to the empty space where it should be...which was 2 teeth lengths away and now it's almost there! I'm good with whenever he tells me they can come off. I've waited a long time to get these things so I'm not gonna stress about a few more months if it happens.

My sentence, er, estimate, was 18-24 months by my first ortho. I had to switch docs 8 months into treatment and now it's looking very likely like I'll get them off in 6-8 weeks, which would be just after my 12 month anniversary. I don't know if the new doc was more aggressive (it didn't seem like it, though he put all kinds of bends and twists in my arch wire that my previous doc never did) or if it would have been about 12 months anyway. No matter, I'm excited!
I was told estimate of 30 months. I'm on my 27th month and was told by my ortho that I'm ready to take them off in Oct 6th! it seemed to take forever but at least I'll be done before Christmas!
The only issue I could see in your case is the impacted canine. I have seem many people with that case and it takes the most time out of your treatment time...just for the impacted canine.I have seen a few take 18 months or more just to bring the canine all the way down where it needs to be. Then they work on tweaking and shifting teeth into perfect aligment once that tooth is down.
It may be sooner or it may take another 2 months. It all depends on how fast that canine comes down and how well you listen to your ortho about wearing elastics and stuff. I HATE wearing the current elastics I have on now because I can't open my mouth at all..so I talk like my jaw is wired shut. I wear them about 22 hrs a day. For one reason only... to be done with my treatment ASAP

Good luck! it will be totally worth it !

I had my first adjustment a couple of weeks ago.. my canine is coming down pretty quickly. I'm not wearing elastics yet.. they haven't told me when I will be wearing them (but they said I will have to at some point).. but hopefully not super soon.. ugh lolGennel wrote:I was told estimate of 30 months.
