Question about post-invisalign tooth movement

#1 Post by warlok1965 »

Hi all,

I finished my bottom trays (11 total) several months ago and my ortho is having me just wear the last tray at night. My teeth move significantly throughout the day and when I put it back in at night it is really tight for a few minutes.

Should I expect that my teeth will eventually get used to where they should be and stop moving so much, so that I could leave my tray out for a week or more? I ask because my mother wears a retainer and she says that she used to wear it every night, but now she only has to wear it once a month to prevent movement.

Thanks in advance,
Steve

I was like that too. Now, unless I skip a night (which I do periodically), I don't feel like my teeth have moved at all. After 2 days, I can tell, but by morning, it is fine again.

I think that each person is different when it comes to retention. I am here now because my teeth moved again after *tries to remember* 1-2 years of retention? (It was a long time ago) This time I will have a permanent wire bonded to my teeth - I think they like to wander!

I have read that the ordinary trays become less effective over time - has your dentist discussed their retention plan with you?
Initial set: 31 upper / 17 lower
1st refinement: 14 upper / 10 lower
2nd refinement: 10 upper / 5 lower
