I will visit your blog after dinner. Just joining the group today, I have a lot of exploring or surfing to do. From your posting it sounds as though you are more comfortable with the idea of wearing the ceramics (that's half the battle). I will have to ask my Ortodontist for a copy of my "before" picture. I was very self conscious of having my picture taken before with my teeth.

Lauren,

What a beautiful introduction for your journey. The pictures and explanation are fantastic and gives me a better understanding why you will be wearing braces. (You and Brian make a beautiful couple).

Oh thank you! It's hard because no one seems to understand - my mom's like "Eh, I never thought to get you braces because they didn't seem that bad to me." Even now she doesn't "get it". She says they aren't "that bad", but I hate what I see when I look in the mirror and that's no way to live life!

Thanks for looking at my new blog, you're probably my first visitor! :)

Lauren,

I know exactly how you feel. When I was 16, my mother asked the dentist if I should wear braces. My heart jumped because my mom knew how much I wanted to wear braces. Hpwever, my sexist dentist replied, "Why? She has a boyfriend". So after I got married, had a child who I made sure wore braces, put him through school and just divorced the man who was my boyfriend since 16, I finally got the braces I wanted for almost my entire life.
I think your mom may change her mind as she continues to read your journey. She will read the different emotions and feelings that you have had or will be going through in the past, present and future and how the braces have affected your emotional or psychological being. Hang in there.
Oh, by the way, don't be too aggressive when brushing your teeth. Yesterday night I really took the toothbrush and brushed too aggressively and a clear rubberband shot off around the bracket of my ceramic braces. However, no harm done.
Hope you are having a good day. It is raining here

I am so sorry that your dentist said that, because I feel like that's how friends view me now - hey, i'm married (i'm the first in our group of friends - people in DC tend to get married later; I'm 26 and people act like i'm too young even though i've been married for 2 years!). But to me, being married doens't mean that I stop caring about myself.

Going through a divorce from someone who's been such a major part of your life for your entire teen AND adult lives has to be so hard - it's so great that you're doing something for YOU! You deserve it and it'll help you build your confidence and get a new start on life. That's how I feel too - i want to do it for ME.

Thanks for the advice on brushing - yikes! Looks like I'm going to schedule my spacers for probably Monday the 15th, as on the 13th my husband is taking me on a surprise visit somewhere for our anniversary that "I shouldn't be uncomfortable for". Hmm. amusement park maybe??

It's supposed to rain here this weekend.. hurricane Hanna is coming to Virginia!
I got braced 9/05/2008!
