splint

#1 Post by dittoxtina »

hello. so its been almost 3 weeks since my surgery. im doing very well! almost all swelling has gone away, alil in my cheeks and under my chin tho, but hardly noticable. but i have a question for all people that had to wear a slint after surgery. my doctor told me i can eat stuff like eggs and noodles, but my splint is big and i cant chew with it in. however i am getting it off Thurs, and i was wondering, at three weeks, can i eat like small pieces of pork chops or just anything that needs to be chewed? or like nacho chips? i'd just like alil feed back on what people have been eating at 3 weeks, and when they were able to eat things other than noodles!!! lol im dieing here! i just wanna get a BIG sub, not that i can open my mouth very wide. :) thanks for any replies. and heres a photo of me at 2 weeks post opt so you can get an idea of my recovery.

ps, bc of the splint i cant shut my mouth!! well i hope its bc of the splint haha

tina---- your pic does look good! your swelling will be mostly gone at about6 weeks, but the residual swelling takes months to go away, so you will see changes for about a year. i JUST got rid of thelast of my swelling this june from my sarpe, then had my BIG surgery in july. give it time....regarding eating- at 3 weeks, i was on a mush diet. anything i could eat without actually chewing. i could mush stuff to the top of my mouth or against the walls of my teeth, but was not allowed to use my teeth. i also could not open my mouth for beans and i was using a toddler spoon to eat. also, you can eat foods with more substance if you cut them up small and mix them with something like soup or mashed potatoes or baked beans. i didnt blend anything and i wasnt allowed to actually chew for 6 weeks. get creative and good luck! youd rather do it rigth the first time than have complications...
