The swelling takes a long time to go down. I'm still swollen internally. Most people don't notice it at all.

Use the moist heat but be very careful not to burn yourself as your skin is very sensitive (and probably numb in areas). I am also taking bromelin and arnica to help reduce the swelling. You can purchase at any health food store.

My OS said it would take a full 6 months to 1 year before everything has settled. I hear you on the frustration part.

mannab271,

You might try an Omega-3 daily supplement for swelling. It may help.

Others have used lymphatic drainage therapy and arnica. I'm sure that someone else will pipe in any minute....

Take care of yourself. I hope that your spirits are rising now...

Be well, and at peace,

Phil

Thanks!

I think I'm going to get some arnica today. The swelling isn't that bad now, THANKGOODNESS.

Here's a question for those pro's out there...

Why does beer almost burn when I try to drink it? LOL I mean, seriously, I tried to have a beer with my boyfriend last night when we went out and it just irritated my mouth. Almost burned..it was like the carbonation was too much for my mouth to handle.

also...on a technical side...why can't I post pics on here? What is BBCODE and is there a website I can go to that hosts pics in BBCode? I usually use imageshack and it offers only html.....

tomorrow is week 2 for me, and thankfully, I'm almost able to get 2 fingers in my mouth and succesfully i'm eating chef boy r dee beefaroni and scrambled eggs now!! Chewing doesn't sem to hurt as long as the food is pretty darn soft!! I actually broke my 2 rubber bands last night eating...which my OS sad COULD happen and not to worry if they do was no big deal...

Anyone had a splint on the roof of their mouth after the 1 segment lefort 1?? I see the wires in my gums in the front of my mouth, which I had no idea what they were so I called my OS Friday freaking out, thinking something was wrong or they messed up..and she said not to worry that those wires are being used as an anchor to keep my splint in place and would come out with the split...now my question is...THERE ARE WIRES GOING IN MY GUMS FROM THE BACK OF MY MOUTH TO THE FRONT???? HOW PAINFUL IS THIS SPLINT REMOVAL???????

Anyone?

mannab271,

Sounds like things are going well, and you are taking good care of yourself.

As far as the splint removal, let's ask Arvensis!!!

So today is 4 weeks or 28 days and I find it hard to believe at this time, I was in surgery still.

BOY have I come a long way!!!!

Update: all my feeling has come back except in my chin and bottom lip. Still a bit frustrating..I have these "itches" that come and I can't get rid of them!! The tingling is "pins and needles" feeling is constant...I'm learning to deal with that!! I'm starting to get feeling on the sides of my chin, so I'm using that as a good sign, thinking the feeling is working its way in to my chin.

However, I'm a little bummed that it seems I'm behind on opening my mouth as much. My OS said 1 finger a week. And I can only get almost 2 full fingers in side by side height wise and I'm 4 weeks post op. My OS's assistant said everyone is different, and to try opening my mouth until it's uncomfortable and holding it open. I have my next appt in 2 days so I'm goin to discuss that with my OS. Of course the ability to not open my mouth as much is interfereing with eating more solid foods.

I'm anxious also to start my back on ortho and get this split off!!! I guess now that swelling is almost gone completely and I'm feeling human again, I'm just being inpatient.

Can I ask those out there...what are your experiences...I mean, when can I expect to eat a darn sandwich or a hotdog or potato chip??? I'm tired of pasta and mash potatoes and stuff...

hopefully someone can help!

You look just wonderful!!!! Your new profile turned out perfectly;)! You must be so thrilled!

Congrats on getting some of the feeling back, and don't worry too much about the ROM. It is very early yet and everyone is so different in terms of the pace of healing with regard to swelling, numbess, & ROM.

THANK YOU! I'm excited, but can't REALLY see MUCH of a difference! I don't know my family says it's because I see myself everyday. I guess I thought for some reason I was goin to look different facial wise. My bite of course I see a difference in. I can't wait to start orthodontic work again. My OS said I need to wait til he says it's ok, my ortho also said he wasn't touching my mouth til my OS said "go" I'm eager the sooner I can start, the sooner I get debraced!!!

Thanks for the pep talk on ROM...I'm just frustrated...i feel like I should be much more ahead...but I guess, my OS said I look considerable ahead of most people with swelling so I should be blessed and ok with that, vs being selfish and wanting all at once huh?

I personally think it is great that you don't look super different, yet your bite problems are fixed. It is psychologically easier that way. Oh how I wish my results were as subtle as yours! Great improvement for you. Perfect I would say.

thank you for all the compliments!!

was I THAT far ahead with swelling than others?

I'm on chicken now! I'm SUPER excited, like I said, I just now want the split out, the koby-ties off my brackets so I can resume orthodontic work. I've never been so ready for anything!!!
