Inman aligners

Hi Daneo,
I would say it all depends on how much your ortho shaves off your teeth..i started to see results after about 4 weeks of wearing IA, but last week was really a "turning point", but i had biggest shaving session just before it..so i think-that was what played the magor role in it....
I must admit, i also have been wearing my IA for only qbout 12 -14 hours a day last 3 weeks, as i had some problems at work and was too stressed to have lisp on top of it all...but i am back to wearing it at work now and i would say i wear it for at least 20 hours a day! Hope this helps. have you asked your ortho how long does he think your treatment will take?

Hi Buzz, sounds like the same place I go. I went today for a checkup - having worn mine for 7 weeks. He took some more photos and the difference is really noticable now. Either next visit or the one after, I will have impressions for an Invisalign which will finish off the top teeth and I think then acts as my retainer. I'm really pleased with the progress and am now considering having my bottom teeth done as well.
I wasn't going to originally as only 1 tooth is out of line but it will only take around 4-6 weeks for the bottoms and I can wear an inman on the bottom whilst I wear the Invisalign on the top. He said that if I have another expander on the bottom it will take a bit longer or I can have some shaving instead. I think I will go for the expander.
Has anyone got an Inman on the bottom teeth??

Hi Jules,
Is the initials of the practice DE...?
I was really nervous when i went but think the dentist is great and really explained everything well. My teeth have quite a way to move, i plan to wear it as much of the time as possible as i will want this over and done with. I'm quite worried about the speech side of it tho!
Can't wait to get it, i called yesterday to see if i can get an earlier app but he is so booked up Grrrrr!

Yes it must be the same one then. Tip for you, when you get your aligner, book your 3 weekly appointments in advance. I assume you are seeing Dr Q, he is very busy as he does teaching and conferences too. He is excellent, especially with explanations.
My teeth were terrible but have moved so much already in 7 weeks, I am really pleased with the movement so far.
The only downside is the speech but I just thought that I want straight teeth, in the shortest possible time and so wore it to work the first day and that was it. I warned everyone at work I was getting it so it wasn't a shock. For the first few days I put the ansafone on and used the time when I ate to return calls as the aligner was out. I am now able to speak on the phone with it in with virtually no problems, people understand me most of the time. I wear it all the time except when I eat. When I first got it I practiced speaking at home by reading aloud and also sang along to the radio in the car - you have to get your mouth used to moving around the aligner and it's best to try in private whilst you are a bit 'spitty'.
The funny thing is no-one notices I have it until I speak and then they have 20 questions which at first are difficult because you can't talk, people seem interested in it and I've lost count of the people who have said they would like to have their teeth done - I thought I was on my own wanting braces at 35!!
Good luck with it!!!

Hi all,
Had my 9 week appointment recently. Surprisingly, no shaving, as the teeth haven't yet reached the point where they "lock" again and need space creating.
I raised my concerns about the amount of shaving going on and needed in the future, and the doc said it was necessary but that teeth move unpredictably and it wouldn't be too bad - something like 0.2 (or was it 0.02?) of a millimetre.
Feeling that he hadn't made clear to me the extent of shaving necessary before I started the treatment, I asked if an expander might have been an alternative way of creating space, but he said it would have just splayed my teeth outwards...
I have to say I don't feel it's an ideal situation, but there has been significant movement and if I can get over my feelings about the shaving I'm sure it will be okay. Apparently it would take about 5 months to get to this stage with fixed braces, and I'm approaching the end of the Inman process- I'll have a "Clareligner"(sp?) to apply a final bit of torque and then act as a retainer.
So there we go - another essay from me!
Good to hear tales of success from the rest of you!

Sounds like you're getting somewhere Nixxin. I thought my dentist said I'll get a 'clear aligner' after the IA which I assume is like Invisalign. The only concern I have with that is (and I must remember to ask the question next time) if the clear aligner is to act as a retainer and it is indeed an Invisalign, how long will it last.
From what I've read about Invisalign, you get a selection of 'trays' and change them every 2 weeks or so. If we are getting these as retainers and their usual usage period is 2 weeks will we have to spend out loads on replacements?
Anyone know??

long time!
Sorry I haven't updated in a while guys.....
Ok so it will almost be 8 weeks in to the IA for me and I had a review today..... my ortho said that he sees A LOT of improvement and thinks that my teeth should be completely straight in a few weeks, and in my next appointment I can have the impressions for the final retainer! I am very happy with the news, because I will own up and admit that in the past 2 weeks I have only worn it perhaps 12 hours a day (I was on hols- can you blame me! lol!_ ) My Ortho did not notice any slacking, so clearly even the short time wearing it did me good.
HOWEVER, he tightened up the IA a considerable amount to speed everything up.... but JUST as I had gotten used to the IA as it was and JUST as everyone can actually understand what I am saying now (without randomly nodding along as in the beginning).... its all back to square one!! The IA feels exactly how it did when I first got it- you all know- the constant saliva, the constant awareness of it in your mouth, the difficulty of making the lips meet without looking stupid and oh feeling like you really do look stupid! What can I say, I guess if I got through it before, I can do it once again, and now I know that I haven't got long to go- its a big motivation!
One thing- I hear some of you are having the clear invisilign types as the next stage- my ortho has not mentioned that to me?! As far as I am aware this is it for me?!!

Hey guys!
I finally get my Aligner after a 3 week wait tomorrow. Just been reading through all your posts and I am pretty scared! I knew it was going to hurt but really wasn't expecting that talking would be so difficult.
My dentist hasn't really told me anything about the brace just took my money and some impressions and said come back in 3 weeks so I am very nervous about tomorrow. Also I had such a hard time with taking the impressions that I am worried I will gag when it is in.
Any advice would be gratefully received

Hi Sherral
My advice? Put it in and keep it in. That way you get used to it quicker, other people get used to hearing you speak with it in and your teeth will move sooner.
I've had mine for 9 weeks now and am so happy with the results and no-one really comments on it now. I only take it out to eat.
You will get some pain at first as the pressure on your teeth takes hold but you have to expect that if you want them to move. You might want to cut things like apples up at first as your front teeth will be tender.
There is a spring along the side of your mouth which some of us have had soreness from. Do the chewing gum trick, let it get sore and then take out the aligner, chew some sugar free gum and when soft, stick it around the part that is making your mouth sore and put the aligner back in. Keep it there for a day and this will give your mouth time to heal up and harden against the spring.
Any other questions post here, and one of us will surely have an answer. When we first started there wasn't much info on the net but we have built up some experience here!
Good luck x

Hi, I am looking into getting braces but I am only really concerned about 1 of my front teeth. So Inman Aligners seems like the way to go. However most of the practices seem to be down in London, does anyone know any in Birmingham/worcestershire that off them?
Also what cost is likely to be involved?
Cheers
Kenny
